20 years ago today - last game at Maine Road

Bombed it back from Spain for this game .... I only really remember getting a free mars bar on my seat in the kippax !

Cannot believe how far we have come since .... and how far we are going !...

In some ways that game was a fitting ending for the old girl in light of our recent history at that point, but given the many glorious days/nights the place had had in the past it would have been good to go out with more of a bang.

Even though we had the various post match celebrations, walking away that day I don't think it had properly sunk in that was the last time we would play there. It was only on the day when I went to collect my auction lots that in sunk in it was no longer our home and we wouldn't be coming back and I got quite upset. My then girlfriend but soon to be wife didn't take the piss and helped me carry some signage to the car and lash it on, that's when I thought she's probably a keeper!

From that last game I have never been back since. I left with the memories of the stadium as was.

I miss walking through Platt Fields and seeing the stadium in the distance.

I was given that book, can't remember it's name now, possibly a Gary James one which was full of pictures of the old girl being demolished.

Only looked at about 4/5 pages and passed it on..... horrible experience.
Not one of mine. I did Farewell to Maine Road: The Official History of Manchester City’s Grounds. Probably thinking of Full Time at Maine Road.

I’ll be posting some news on Farewell To Maine Road later today on my website:
