Someone reminisced on the Album nomination thread what they were doing around this time of their lives when they heard the songs.

So with that in mind, what was happening in your life 22 years ago in 2022 ?

I was a fresh faced 17 years old, leaving school and about to do my A levels when I got a job opportunity in London as an office clerk. Was hitting the age of pubs and clubs , desperate for any lass and the whole new world of leaving school was a big change in my life.
Season ticket at Hammers, had such an exciting team in Di Canio, Lampard, Sinclair etc and we got relegated!
Great days with my old man though and looking back to 2002 it felt a great time.

9/11 had just happened, I had two young kids (4 & 6), had just built my first house, and the airline was hemorrhaging money. On Dec 9th, 2002, the company declared bankruptcy, my pension was about to be taken, I was downgraded and took a 50% pay cut, spent every penny we had and paid off every debt we had except the mortgage (knowing I could work almost anywhere and cover that).

Not the best year of my life, to be quite honest,

That said, my wife and (now grown) kids are healthy and happy, so 2002 is all a distant, if not so pleasant, memory!

Now, if you want to talk about 1999/2000….!

Bet they were scary times, the industry changed forever after 9/11, how long did it take for your company to bounce back and you get your wage back to where it should of been?

I had just met my now wife and started dating, and almost nearly put her off completely by disappearing for a month down the pub to watch Japan 2002. Mate owned a pub and we could serve ourselves even for the 6am kick offs, as long as we had a coffee on the table in case the dibble came past. Was in my first full year of work after Uni and trekking round parts of Asia.

City were back in the Premier League with Keegan at the helm, Anelka up front, exciting times. Was also our last season at Maine Road (02/03) so there was lots of change.

Musically for me it was a year of mostly crap, but I did like RHCP By The Way and a new up and coming band shoving some glam back up the pipetales of the new rock crowd, in The Darkness.

The company I worked for split in two and sold half off to an investor, leaving the rest of us with no premesis to operate out of, soon resolved but not without stress. They didn't pick me to transfer to the new entity, but they ended up relocating to Merseyside anyway so blessing in disguise I guess.

Think I went on holiday to Santorini that year too. Nice place but not very prepared for tourism at the time, saw a dog run over on a sightseeing tour and snuck into a 5* hotel for a crap. Climbed a mountain via a cliffside church on a goat track, only to find an ice cream van at the top which had easily traversed the shiny new road on the other side, and the ruins at the top were closed Tuesdays - guess which day it was...

Other than that was busy playing Championship Manager 01/02 I expect.

Travelled pretty much the whole of Australia starting late January of 2002 with a month in Thailand half way through. Worked about 4 months fruit picking, on a campsite in the outback of NT, and at a kosher shop in Bondi. Got the travel bug so after 18 months back home I did a round the world trip in 2005 and went from Canada back to Thailand to live for 3 years

Amazing.Great experience

Moved into the house I built in February 2002. I had been working four ten hour shifts for a local building company and built the house on my three days off every week. It was a very long seven months in my life but worth every minute.
