2016-17 Champions League Qualifying Matches - (3rd Round, 2nd leg, page 10)

Klopp's Pool changed in the first game they played against Tottenham.

Liverpool looked world beaters at times. When they won at the Etihad I thought they'd easily make the top 4. They finished 8th. They are only able to play Klopp's brand of football every other game. They're weren't fit enough to do it every week and they don't have the right players. Similar problems to the ones Guardiola will face.

The CL seems to be the be all and end all for our Club.

Take a look at the teams that usually do well in it, they on the whole also do well in their domestic leagues.

The reason for this is they have leagues that are less competitive and so can rotate their squads to suit whoever they are playing.

The EPL is very even from top to bottom and you can not take your eye off the ball, the league should always be our priority anything else is a bonus.

Unless we assemble a squad of two teams (FFP permitting) we are going to get caught between a rock and hard place.

The other teams from the EPL who were in the CL also failed to impress in the league this season, more misery to follow in the bread and butter competition unless we start making it the priority.

It depends on whether Liverpool beat Sevilla

That isn't true, if they win Liverpool's spot bounces down to someone else for the EL qualifying stage, not the group stage. I think if Liverpool win it just means West Ham get into the EL through their league place or if United win the FA Cup but only at 1st round qualifying.

The CL 4th play off losers always go straight to the EL group stage as we effectively will of swapped with Liverpool.

Whether Liverpool win the EL, or City win the playoff makes no difference to anything much in terms of qualification. Otherwise you'd be trying to expel a team from the EL after it had started.

This time, Liverpool win the EL -> 4 in CL group stages, plus City in playoffs.

EL - 3 teams. Southampton are certain in the group stages.
FA Cup winners go into group stage.
Next best league side enter playoff.
CL playoff losers enter group stage.

We started this season winning the first 5 games with 5 clean sheets and look where that got us.
This is City afterall, so expect the unexpected
and we were guffed by Stuttgart pre-season who have been relegated in Germany...

(just posted for our resident flappers ) ;)

One good thing about this playoff is that it will hopefully give Txiki and co a kick up the arse to get our transfers done nice and early.
