Yeah, I think his 8-10 point lead in the polls kind of tells you his strategy is working just fine. I'm pretty sure his lead isn't going to drop after that performance.

Trump doesn't think strategically and he's clearly not got anyone in his inner circle who do, he delivers a rag-tag jumble of incoherent reactionary nonsense because that is what he is.
He's smart enough to conjure the required dog whistle from time to time, but even then he often f**ks it up.
He's screwing over his base, he knows that, we all know that, even some of his base know that, but they'll stick by him because on some visceral level he is them, and he gave them enough meat last night to remind them of that fact
Trump's real difficulty is broadening his appeal beyond his base, at least he would be having difficulty if he was actually trying to do that.
It is not possible to have seen that shit show last night and come to the conclusion that Trump was pitching to undecideds. Maybe he's come to the not unreasonable conclusion that undecideds don't exist when it comes to him and he knows he can't win the election in the "traditional" way.
If that's the case, then the USA is in real trouble.

No he hasn't failed.
Again, he's up in the polls. It's Trump that needs the votes, needs the viewing figures and needs to sway voters.
The absolute best case scenario for him from last night's shit show was that nobody was swayed either way.
That's bad for him, good for Biden. All Biden had to do was still be standing strong in the polls after 90 minutes and he is.
Plus, the next two debates will see a drastic drop in viewing figures which is an absolute nightmare for Trump and his campaign yet it's his own doing.
In no way, shape or form did Biden fail last night, he just kept the ball in the corner when he could while Trump hoofed it up the pitch every time.

Sanders has more brain cells and integrity in his left bollock than the pair of them.
No lens, it's just looking at what Trump actually did/said.
He spoke about Biden's son's drug addiction, a call to arms for a white supremacist group and about a ban on cows.
There was zero substance to his answers. No health care plan, no economic revival plan... Nothing. It was a monkey throwing shit around.
He threw few and landed zero punches in a political debate. No two ways about it.

Precisely, although I also agree with @inbetween that Trump knows he cannot win the election conventionally (or at least that what his internal polls are telling him, as well as the external ones) so the point of last night (if there was one) was to get his base out -- which means voting for most, and doing, errr, "more" for a few of them. He's at the point now where he's trying to prevent a rout so he has some legitimate claim to contest -- which he'll do regardless, of course, but it would look better were the vote closer.

I’m surprised anyone found it informative. When Trump was speaking he just waffled about nonsense when he wasn’t throwing insults. When Biden was speaking, Trump drowned him out with more nonsense.

Or we're saying that when Black and Brown offend at the same rate, for the same or very similar crimes, then the prisons should be evenly split for the demographic percentage. I think it's highly noted that there's a disproportionate amount of prison terms handed down in the demographic differences.
And yes, I agree #45 has nothing to gain from delving into cupboards for skeletons looking at his own, but that's not the point for him. The aim was for Biden to be rattled and present poorly.

The issue is that no one thinks Biden presented poorly but you, and you're hardly an impartial judge here. Not even the post-debate Fox New panel I watched thought Biden did badly or that Trump was able to fight to anything more than a draw, at best. Trump played exclusively to his base and came off as a raving lunatic. He also managed to make the whole thing so unwatchable that fewer people will bother with the next one, which also happens to be one of Trump's last chances to sway the race. For the candidate up by seven points that's a huge win.
