I think the title of Grand Old Party (GOP) should no longer be used. It has relinquished any notion of grand in the behaviour during impeachment and this election.

The thing is, the economy had actually just turned before coronavirus. The trade war with China and the inevitable contraction following him artificially pumping up the market by promising to keep slashing corporate taxes had just started to kick in before the virus and if it hadn't come along his awful economic policy would have been exposed.

Republican's often refer to GOP as 'God's Own Party', which is particular presumptuous, given that; a) God is a mythical character, and b) If god was real, he wouldn't be a racist Red Neck.

He destroyed whistleblower protections, he had his people illegally spread the name of the whistleblower who came forward against him and then sought out a personal vendetta that spread to even firing Lt Vindman's brother from the army.

He took the US out of the paris climate accord, approved oil pipelines through protected land, he stripped protections from the national forests, he gutted the EPA and replaced qualified, experienced people with donors and oil/gas lobbyists. He made a climate change denier the head of the white house committee on climate change, he made an anti-abortion lobbyist the head of the family planning program in poor areas.

And then there's all the day to day little stuff - the racism, the sexism, the general degrading of the office, the destroying of the everyday norms that make things work - like following a court order or subpoena, instead of forcing every single one into the courts for 6 months.

So that's the stuff "anyone but trump" won't do.

And so it's great for Americans and it's great for us because the American economy, their attitude to the environment and their politics in general all effects us. Look how BLM spread to this country or how Steve Bannon and Cambridge analytica brought their election meddling to Britain. Think about how we negotiate a trade deal with someone who thinks he has to be the out and out, unbeatable winner of every deal he makes.

Thing is, compared to similar rants from the Trump support that have gone viral, I don’t think there was actually any fake news in there, other than the fact that it’s not over yet. He hasn’t officially lost yet.
That aside though, I get his sentiment. There was no fake news and in between the fuck fuck fuck, he actually sounded like he was clued in and informed, at least about local issues.

And this is only a small sliver of the issues with his management of the US economy (and international trade in general). He had already screwed up the economy — including the markets in the long-term — and it was just beginning to become visible shortly before the pandemic hit. If anything, the COVID crisis actually initially masked the damage he has done. However, it will ultimately — and unfortunately — extenuate it, especially in the context of the further economic destruction wrought by his inaction and inept management of the pandemic response.

I had just convinced myself that I was right to turn down an opportunity to write an analytical rebuke of that tragic falsehood for the local paper, as there was surely no point in spending a lot of time and energy on it just to see the article lost to the torrent of election postmortem and ‘what will Trump do now’ media coverage.

But now you’ve got me thinking about it again.

5 pm Clark County, NV
2 am Maricopa County, AZ

They are also only giving Biden 253, so presumably the Maine or Nebraska PR vote is still undecided/not going to Biden.
