It's a town and country thing. People outside the cities have steady lives focused on their communities, with a heirachy, social fabric, and way of communicating that is very different to life in the city. The importance of the Church, public displays of patriotism, knowing your ancestory (often tied to your area and industry). Self suficiency against the open land. While I hate trump and the republican party this is the reason basically. For whatever reason a large portion of Americans do not like the Democratic Party and it is up to the Dems to combat whatever is causing it
The City dwellers are often self-obsessed, dismissive and arrogant. They are not polite to each other, let alone respectful of people from the country. And the media reflects this. I watched the PBS special on Trump and Biden, and I was quite taken aback at how casually dismissive and negative they were about Trump, whilst presenting Biden's relatively minor political struggles into something almost heroic. They missed the point about Trump completely. I did too originally. Trump has mastered how to drive a wedge between the two camps. We think he's nuts, but to be fair, many of the worst things I thought he said, were taken out of context. I don't bother truly digesting his rambling crap, but it's true that taken as a whole, if you squint a bit, he's not saying anything that bad.
The metropoles demand that people speak in a very concise fashion, and want to hear their 'sophisticated' world view reflected back to them. The town and country folk really do not judge people in that particular way. There's that difference again. The R's and D's have been playing with these 'separate' channels for decades. What Don has done is harness outrage, hate and controversy, to take this cultural gap, play on it, and present these as existing battle lines for a total war whose time has come.
Not that fucking clever for the country, IMHO, but there you go. D supporters really do not relate well to these people, they (and I too) often disrespect them unfairly, and the offense this creates is not going away any time soon.
