While I hate trump and the republican party this is the reason basically. For whatever reason a large portion of Americans do not like the Democratic Party and it is up to the Dems to combat whatever is causing it
It's a town and country thing. People outside the cities have steady lives focused on their communities, with a heirachy, social fabric, and way of communicating that is very different to life in the city. The importance of the Church, public displays of patriotism, knowing your ancestory (often tied to your area and industry). Self suficiency against the open land.

The City dwellers are often self-obsessed, dismissive and arrogant. They are not polite to each other, let alone respectful of people from the country. And the media reflects this. I watched the PBS special on Trump and Biden, and I was quite taken aback at how casually dismissive and negative they were about Trump, whilst presenting Biden's relatively minor political struggles into something almost heroic. They missed the point about Trump completely. I did too originally. Trump has mastered how to drive a wedge between the two camps. We think he's nuts, but to be fair, many of the worst things I thought he said, were taken out of context. I don't bother truly digesting his rambling crap, but it's true that taken as a whole, if you squint a bit, he's not saying anything that bad.

The metropoles demand that people speak in a very concise fashion, and want to hear their 'sophisticated' world view reflected back to them. The town and country folk really do not judge people in that particular way. There's that difference again. The R's and D's have been playing with these 'separate' channels for decades. What Don has done is harness outrage, hate and controversy, to take this cultural gap, play on it, and present these as existing battle lines for a total war whose time has come.

Not that fucking clever for the country, IMHO, but there you go. D supporters really do not relate well to these people, they (and I too) often disrespect them unfairly, and the offense this creates is not going away any time soon.

Being a proud Philadelphian that REALLY pisses me off. Probably learned spelling from one of the neanderthals riding around in pickup trucks with their MAGA flags a flying.

Two racists a’ shouting,

Three AR-15s a’ shooting...

It's not obvious to me who that more palpable candidate will be. I'd guess there will be an almighty struggle within the GOP between the old guard and the populist Trumpers. And Biden's going to need to screw up -- but the set-up for him is like the set-up for Obama -- nation's economy on its ass but bottoming. And you'd have to expect the pandemic situation to improve dramatically if not be eradicated on his watch. If the economy is good, inflation is under control and people are healthy by 2024, even if Biden says "Thank you, I'm done" (which if he's healthy he might be hard-pressed to) a new Democrat will have a good tailwind, exogenous events notwithstanding. Can Kamala do it? I don't know. I have to tell you I have an unhealthy attraction to her for some reason (I mean a physical one :)). Would be great if she takes a lead on foreign affairs and gets a chance to play a toughie internationally.
Honestly I don't think the Republicans will need to work too hard to find a slightly more tolerable candidate. Would he be someone you and me like? No but they don't need to be.
I suspect Trump and many of his cheerleaders will be purged from the party but we shall see.

And yes I also have an attraction to Kamala, although I'm definitely an AOC guy ;)

Trump is available at 16-1 to be the next president. Worth a bet if you think the Republicans are going to steal it somehow.
Anything up to 28-1 on the exchanges. This is truly a dead duck.

Watching the odds has, as ever been a treat. I read several stories in the days leading up to the election that cited insiders in the Trump campaign actually predicted exactly this scenario, where he'd look like he'd almost have it for a while on the evening, before losing on the postal votes. The markets must have seen these stories too, but maybe like me, we were still taken aback by how late that moment came, and how convincing his lead looked. He went from 2/1 on the day, to 1/3 at his peak, even higher briefly. And that peak lasted well into the next day. I wasn't prepared for that. Even though I knew postals were coming, the whole picture looked pretty settled in Don's favour. Not for the first time, I'm damned glad I didn't try and play, because I would have backed biden at 1.5, and in no way would my winnings have made up for the added stress of the rollercoaster ride.

I think you would struggle to make a case for this before the election, but after seeing the efforts he has gone too to subvert democratic processes to maintain his power, this arguement is dead in the water.

Newt Gingrich is just talking absolute utter shite.... More so than anyone i've seen. Want's to cancel votes from loads of counties because maybe there was fraud, but he doesn't know there was, so best to cancel them. Coz he saw it in a film once...

Well done on the worst take of the day.

You nailed it! Lottery numbers?
If only it was that easy.

I was always sure, from discussions on here and from the dozen or so podcasts I’ve spent hours listening to each day for the last three months that it would play out this way, although I don’t mind saying that my arse nipped a bit when I was one of the few not panicking whilst half of Bluemoon was in bed.
