I can't believe Josh Hawley et al. still objected to the election results after the attack on the Capitol last night.
How fucking stupid do you need to be. You've seen how your constant, baseless lying about the election results has incited violence and gotten 4 people killed, and still, still, you chose to try and have some big moment of grandstanding to make a meaningless objection to try and get these domestic terrorists on your side in the future.
The GOP is absolutely fucked. They have been radicalised.

How does society get past all this? The Trump fuelled mess that is America, the clear divisions in this country re Brexit. Will it even get better any time soon? It feels like decency in politics has disappeared off the face of the earth. It's incredibly tribal now. Civil unrest everywhere, and it's only getting worse. Can't help but think the advent of social media has made populism explode to unhealthy levels. Am I being incredibly pessimistic to not really picture a way out of this?
By bringing in debate classes in Year 11 and college and making it as important as maths and english as part of the curriculum.
We need to learn how to talk, respect and listen to other views whilst living side by side.
The current "millennial" generation is fucked. Whatever view you hold you are "far something" and if they don't agree with you prepare to be hounded and cancelled. This cannot go on otherwise the divide will get bigger and bigger.

This is a short thread (4 posts) worth reading. Pretty insightful.
They could have done anything in that building today. What they did, by and large, was take selfies and create social media content. That was what really mattered to them.
It’s possible that I might have made the point about the importance of social media creating democratization of the bully pulpit before, I can’t remember . . . :)

The party they've been supporting is the one who's kept them down on purpose. That the reason they've got no money is because the Republicans have increased their taxes while giving tax breaks to the rich, and bailed out big business to the tune of Trillions over covid, whilst refusing to send you a $600 check for 10 months.

Was so bad for my mental health. Luckily all the ridicule on here made me see sense and pulled myself out of it.
It's a depressing existence believing the whole world is a corrupt satanic peado ring. A lot of the groups are clever in how they rope you in, they target normal issues and then start feeding you the crazy bullshit. They are all in it for money not because they actually believe a word they say.

this is why i'm not quite sure with those saying the Police would treat BLM differently
there were many incidences of shops and other places being completely ransacked and looted with no one stopping the rioters during those protests

Of course there will always be people of different backgrounds on both sides of any issue, and I live in a bubble here, made more bubble-like by COVID, but the fact that Georgia went blue and Arizona went blue and Texas is purple and Colorado and California and the Pacific Northwest are now quite clearly blue compared to what these states looked like a generation or two ago should tell you a lot. So we're looking at a problem that will last potentially decades, and that's only *if* we introduce things like that. I can't see schools changing for the better. They're getting worse apparently. Universities are no longer a place for free thinking according to many. Cancel culture is absolutely rife amongst young people and only growing.

You only have to compare yourself and Arsenal Fan TV. You produce great content but AFTV get more views for their drama, their OTT reactions and their vitriol and social media gives them the platform to do that.

This was an attack planned well in advance, that everyone knew was going to happen, and they had no police there. No National Guard. No riot police at all.
There are literally thousands of videos of peaceful BLM protesters being attacked by overzealous police, just because some Proud Boy got shoved when he tried to attack the police after being ordered to disperse doesn't make it equal on both sides.
