I thought it was ok. Not as good as ours 20 years ago but I’m biased.
 
The only thing missing from the Manchester 2002 Opening Ceremony was the torch bearer running into the Stadium being stopped by Jack Duckworth - for a light for his fag.
Do you remember the torrential downpour at the Closing Ceremony??

And wasn't the North Stand uncovered just like the scoreboard end at Maine Road. There would have been a few thousand pissed wt through to the skin!

Yeah, apparently Birmingham now stretches from Stoke down to Gloucester. Lenny's from Dudley, Denise from Wolverhampton, and Claire from, er, PoshHorseton! Do Brunnies really want Wolverhampton 'n Dudley tacking on, or are these wee towns (is Wolverhampton now a city?) happy to be connected? You often find every Tom, Dick 'n Harriet born in the north west bar Murkyside tell the Facebook world they were born in Manchester!

Best bit of the ceremony that, he's not far off the mark (he did say 'government' not British people).
Not really in to the 'performance art' stuff really. Not a massive Black Sabbath fan, though the ballet 'mash up' was interesting(only really liked their stuff with Dio...sorry Ozzy!!) Geezer can certainly play that axe though Lenny Kravitz still looks as cool as fuck too when he said his bit.
Why did they not get The Goat to do the same for Bermuda??
On another City theme, it was interesting seeing the Commonwealth games stadium/COMS from 2002. I remember at the time thinking how strange it will be playing our home games there.
 
People that say they are from Manchester rarely are. A new teaching colleague told me she was from Manchester. I asked her if she knew certain places and she didn’t……it turned out that she was from Saddleworth!!
 
The rugby sevens is usually fun.

Everyone knows that it's Fiji national game, but Samoa now have a team.
Samoa 34-0 England.

Samoa even managed to outscore England when down to 6 for 2 minutes.
