2022 World Cup Discussion

There is now a doubt whether Kane will wear the One Love armband due to potential FIFA fines or sanctions.
They should keep to their morals & defy Fifa even if it means a ban.
You either believe something or you don’t
You want to highlight the issue or you don’t
You can’t believe it until it’s a bit difficult and then cave in
Wear the thing and if anything happens fine - don’t pay, booking- refuse to play, anything else- press conference making a huge deal
Just make FIFA look shit - not hard granted

Oh and I just saw wales manager has said they will wear it with or without fifa permission as it’s their beliefs - class act
Wish our FA had some balls like that

Could be a fun start to the England game. Kane booked when he walks onto the pitch and Iran score in the first seconds as England players are on their knee
Hope this happens, teach the bastards. I would laugh so hard. If they felt that strongly they should not have turned up, stayed back home and protested from there. Of course they wouldn’t have bothered then though as the media would not have focussed on them.

Big meeting right now if Kane & Bale are going to where these One Love armbands.

They can’t win either way now really

Wear it and get a yellow card before you even kick off, resulting in a ban if you do it twice

Don’t wear it and loads of people will call you a coward, say you don’t practice what you preach when it comes down to standing up.

The thing is if they wear it, you’re pretty much putting the ball in the court of the ref and FIFA to give you a yellow card in front of the would for supporting gay rights. But then it’s not like FIFA care much about their public image anyway is it?

Then there’s also a valid enough point that if you’re CHOOSING to go and participate somewhere, then you should accept their laws and culture. I’m sure if we hosted a World Cup and Saudi Arabia come to England and tried to spread and campaign some beliefs during the game, things that are not accepted in England, it wouldn’t go down well.

We really are a hypocritical bunch. I have never been less interested in a world cup but the virtue signalling from the media and others makes me sick. I don't believe Quatar should have been given the world cup for purely football reasons but bloody hell, Russia had it last time and I don't remember all of the hand wringing and gnashing of teeth that has accompanied this one. Maybe we should concentrate on sorting ourselves out before trying to apply our own perfect standards on others. Lets thank our lucky stars the competition isn't being held in AD.

From the Guardian:

Qatar only managed to manoeuvre itself into this prime position by soliciting the support of powerful states that have fast-tracked its passage into polite society. It is armed to the teeth by the UK, Europe and the US, and is a joint venturer in monumental, lucrative financial and real-estate transactions on European soil. The state of Qatar is the 10th largest landowner in Britain. Since it won the right to host the World Cup, it has been granted billions of pounds of weapons sales licences, including sophisticated surveillance equipment, by Britain.

There is a special relationship with London in particular, and it can be seen in the Westminster ledger of declared gifts. In the run up to the World Cup, the value of Qatar’s gifts to British MPs was greater than the amount spent by all the other 15 countries whose governments made donations to British MPs combined. The Conservative MP David Mundell, the first openly gay Tory cabinet minister, accepted hospitality worth £7,473 from Qatar, and then, in a parliamentary debate a few months later, in response to concern raised by another MP about LGBTQ+ rights in Qatar, said that Qatar’s critics should “focus their energies on the handling of LGBT issues in professional football in the UK”.

The moral high ground was to withdraw from the World Cup as soon as it was apparent thee level of corruption in awarding it to Qatar or the human rights abuses were seen as a serious issue.
To turn up and still bang on about this is embarrassing.
The human rights abuses are the same ones levelled at our owners don’t forget.

Yep, It looks even worse when the FA and Kane have said we are wearing it no matter what comes our way. According to the latest News its highly unlikely now.

What an absolute load of shit. Virtue signalling at it's finest. Either boycott the tournament and don't go or just get on with it. For me there is no middle ground. If you choose to go for whatever reasons you are condoning it. Same with the media journalists and so called pundits. Don't stay in comfy hotels where slaves died whilst building them and sit in football stadiums where slaves died building them and then complain about slaves being killed whilst building them. Absolute fucking total hypocrisy.

Apparently only three slaves died building the stadiums, the rest are on a crest of a wave.

There are young people in this country being locked up for having mental disabilities away from their families for years. The families are fighting to get them out but the authorities are keeping them locked up treated like criminals, behind barbed wire fences, with just a plastic mattress on the floor and we have people talking about human rights in Qatar. We have our own problems in our own country to sort out before we take the moral high ground with other countries.

The England shirts are made in Thailand where workers are paid £1 equivalent. Yet the FA are happy to let them make the shirts so they can make a fortune off us mugs who pay for them. So the FA are happy to mug the Thai people and its own supporters.
