2022 World Cup Discussion

Watched this is few days ago and thought it was very informative outside the reminiscing about the past (which I found, also, extremely interesting with my own memories of the job Collina did on the pitch).

Personally, I like time added for time wasting has been enacted after it being threatened for so many years!

I think they've made a collective decision to ensure each game has 45 minutes of game time. So subs, VAR calls, injuries will all take time out of the game and they've decided that they'll play it on. The England game was ridiculous, but if it had have been 0-0 at 45 mins after only 31 mins of actual game time, we'd have been berating the officials for not adding on enough time.
I actually think this is a good thing.

Trouble is - in previous World Cups the refs have been crazy with cards in the first few games - as if to send out a message, then after round one go back to normal.

I hope this attempt to deal with blatant time wasting continues.

Might be a problem in places like USA though - whenever I watch a US TV show, for example 24 - an obvious case - they like to have TV breaks every 10-15 mins. The show comes in bursts to accommodate that. Can they handle 55-60 min football halves?

Maybe this will force a rule change: 2 x 30 mins with clock stops whenever the ball is 'dead' a bit like American Football and also ice hockey and basketball yes?

I’m probably somewhat out of the loop in these things but I was reading an article about some of the absurdity of upcoming World Cup, paid fans , paid politicians and such. It got me wondering how supporters of city feel about such matters. It struck me that the World Cup is a logical extension of the city ‘project’. Are they conflicted in anyway or have they accepted that this is how football now is ?

The posts about the sponsorship deal from the ‘book makers’ must elicit some reaction from City support . How do they feel about it ?

OK, I’m starting to get in to it now … good England performance … The Argie upset … and watching a couple of games before 10am is an excellent use of time.

And, Fox’s commentary team, while not perfect, are certainly less annoying than the UK’s ‘lets talk about LGBTQ+ & Human Rights’ sports analysis !

And there’s been stiff competition over at RAWK for that award
