It's safe to say this world cup is wide open. A team that is comfortable in its system has every chance to do well. The odd talented player can carry a team - as Mbappe and Griezmann have shown, but Morocco and Japan winning their groups has shown that there's also something in just working hard in a certain system. England have the tournament experience and comfort in a system to go far in this tournament. It's whether we're able to play with the confidence we need to go and win the tricky games. Our win over Germany in the Euro's showed that we can do it despite the weight of expectation and history against us. If we play France that will be a real test. Do we worry about their players or do we play to our own strengths? For me, without so many key players they're a good side rather than a great one. Walker can deal with Mbappe. You'd want Rice to just follow Griezmann around and then we have plenty of talent to hurt them defensively.
The world rankings are slightly skewed but plenty of the big boys are out or got through by the seat of their pants. We're doing alright so far!
