2022 World Cup Discussion

With the players we now have we have more than enough to beat the French.

Keep Mbappe and Grezman quite and we can win the game and even if we don't we have our own match winners.

we have the players but don't have the manager with ideas who would struggle in the championship

For once, a decent article on BBC sport re Vittorio Pozzo, Italy's double world cup winning coach in 1934 and 1938. Then, as now, football was used to reinforce nationalistic nonsense.

Pozzo seems to have been a decent coach but tainted for the way he and his squad weren't averse to being used by Mussolini. Banned from coaching after the war, Pozzo became a respected football journalist.

No one's ever matched his feat of coaching successive winners (Brazil in 1958 and 1962 did it with different coaches).

Journeyman player and coach Didier Deschamps could emulate Pozzo if France go all the way. I sincerely hope that they won't, officially as it would mean they beat England. Unofficially Deschamps reminds me unpleasantly of a piece of shit that I had the severe displeasure to work with, fucking rag who'd stab you in the back as it was in his nature, called Pete.

In terms that Blue Mooners might understand, he's the type of snidey ****,who you would definitely slap if he was asleep on a train! Sorry off topic but it's very cathartic to type!!

Yes. England even losing a semi or even the final would not register anywhere near as much as City losing to Brentford did.

I’m actually shocked you deemed it necessary to check.

Given the replies, everyone seems to be in agreement with your opinion and frankly I'm shocked. The team that represents my country is far more important to me than the city/state teams.
