2022 World Cup Discussion

Some valid points re Russia. I was pretty uninspired by that tournament for the same reasons I am with this one. It was only there because of corruption.

But at least it was in the summer and in a country that actually has a football tradition and fans.

Football should belong to the fans. If it did the World Cup would never be in Qatar.

Some good points there, we all know that football sold its arse to the highest bidder decades ago.

Yeah I don't disagree.

All this hypocritical angst will be forgotten once the football starts as it did in Russia, Brazil and South Africa. Obviously Qatar got it through agreeing to buy Billions of $ worth of French Jets and buying PSG and Sarkozy and Platini were the cheerleaders. Mind Russia also paid FIFA officials for 2018 as did Germany for 2006.

The USA should have got 2022 but FIFA ensured they got the next one after 17 of the 21 who voted for Qatar were arrested for corruption. I might get to USA depending on the £/$ and it will be my last World Cup in my lifetime given my age.

I think it's the fact it was so corrupt and its clearly unsuited. The fact they had to move it to winter. Build all the stadiums with slave labour and then they will just get abandoned. Its just so wrong, there is no reason for it to be there other than corruption.

Human rights is the cherry on top.

Moved it to Winter, after they were the winning bid to play the fucking thing in summer. If my memory serves there was a load of bollocks about fully a.c stadiums etc.

Should have been declared null and void and all the bids reconsidered alongside a Qatar winter w.c.

I'm sure they would still have had the winning bid in that case.

England could be home early, Southgate 5 man defence and championship tac-tics long ball free kicks and corners,
I don't see all the hype and having a very good chance under Southgate, unless we stink the place out and get lucky again, England/Southgate we be heading home with the tails between their legs,

Iran, first game England will need a good start, and it's always hard finding your feet in the first game
USA, will be a nightmare game and I can guarantee they will be right at us and run and run, NO push overs
Wales, will be a very tight game as always, Bale will be the key and if he turns up fit and hungry then they could easily beat us.

England will need 4 points going into the Wales game, then maybe could sort of do a handshake and play out a draw, but lose one and draw the other in the couple of games before Wales then we could be out in the groups ?

Can't wait for this World Cup.

The players will be in their best form as it's mid season and I think England have a great chance of winning the whole thing.

Southgates mix of negative football but mixed with some exciting players, who can create chances regardless of the defensive nature of how we setup will be tough to beat.

Blatter being a **** shocker.

Instead of accepting the bung it should have been held in Australia/New Zealand which would have been a tournament real fans of the teams could get to and enjoy. Rather than what will be the most plastic competition ever.

Will we get all pious over their human rights record should Trump be back for the next one in the US? Will we fuck.

New Zealand struggle to handle a Lions tour

Oh yes. This is going to go well .....

"A Qatar World Cup ambassador calling homosexuality "damage in the mind" is "harmful and unacceptable", says Human Rights Watch.

Former Qatar international Khalid Salman told German broadcaster ZDF that LGBTQ+ people attending the tournament should "accept our rules". Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar because it is considered immoral under Islamic Sharia law.

Salman said: "[Homosexuality] is haram. You know what haram [forbidden] means?" When asked why it was haram, he added: "I am not a strict Muslim but why is it haram? Because it is damage in the mind."

The interview, which is part of a documentary set to be broadcast on Tuesday, was then stopped by an accompanying official."

I really don't know what that broadcaster expected. Asking a guy from a conservative Islamic country what he thinks about homosexuality, he was never going to get the response he wanted.

Welsh FA want to change their name to Cymru.

Even they are getting pissed off everyone is calling them Gareth Wales.

GOALKEEPERS (3): Ethan Horvath (Luton Town/ENG; 8/0), Sean Johnson (New York City FC; 10/0), Matt Turner (Arsenal/ENG; 20/0)
