2022 World Cup Discussion

Ah yeah, perspective changes everything. And some people will tell you that the first division in the mid 80s was better than the current premier league. I'd disagree with them too.
I think with World Cups you have to take into account the occasion & atmospheres around the tournaments.
Past World Cups beat modern day ones easily on that, modern ones are so insipid & almost choreographed

The more I watch, the more I'm convinced that Brazil is going to lift the trophy. I'm not a fan of Brazil - but they're solid on defense and have a decent enough offense.

Anyone else reckon Vinny will be approached for the Belgium job?
He should turn it down, not many top managers do international football nowadays & thats what he wants to be.
Also, the Belgian cupboard is bare & replacing all the OAPs will be difficult

International football is a managers retirement zone. It's the last thing a young manager needs. You get minimal time with players and most games are meaningless. He's far better off at Burnley.

Don’t know if this has been posted but groups G and H have identical records in the table with even both groups leaders playing the third place team and 2nd v 4.

Imo it's a pity Germany went out. They were one of the most exciting teams for several reasons and very entertaining on both ends.

I like Gundo and for that reason Germany. But the two most deserving sides advanced and in the correct order.

It’s important that ALL our players get proportionate game time to keep them in condition and rhythm.

This is particularly important for those not at the WC.

I hope that the club have a programme for Erling that concentrates specifically on his touch, close control, turning mobility and core fitness all of which can be improved.

The break can be very valuable for a combination of recuperation and review along with some intense ,focused conditioning and coaching.

Our game schedule from 22 Dec onwards is very demanding, a game every 3 days to the end of the season so we need to be fit, focused ruthless and relentless and hit the ground running and winning.
A thread about the World Cup and you manage to make a post criticising FOUR aspects of Erling Haaland’s play?! Only on Bluemoon

I think there is definitely a drop in quality in this world cup from the traditional top nations which has allowed for more of a level playing field.

The tournament has some great individuals but lacks great teams.

I can only remember as far back as the 02 world cup and I think the winners of the last 5 world cups would walk this tournament.

France and Brazil look the standouts but in no way are they vintage teams, and to add to the discussion of those 2 teams I think half of the England team gets in each of their XI.

France have by far the best player in the tournament and that's why they will win it in my opinion.

Agree with most of this.

I think that Brazil are far stronger on defense than France though and I think it's going to be Brazil.

Germany's drop off over the years has been amazing. They used to be so strong and self assured from WC to WC, amazing how they kept that up for decades.

I do think the world is catching up though, back in the day it was mainly the european teams that had the edge, the latest training methods, best coaches etc. Nowadays Japan can (deservedly) beat Germany etc. Still all poorer quality though agreed.

He’s injured, not enough mobility and one of those ‘quality’ assists was via a deflection.

Whether that cross got a slight deflection of not, two direct assists for goals in three games is hardly being ‘anonymous’ as was the claim.

But if a 29 year old, with the second most England goals in history has had a couple of quiet games and is now a ‘busted flush’ Then let’s fuck him off and bring in a 30 year replacement with one England goal in his life to get the job done.
