2025/26 NFL

I've been a very casual NFL fan for many years but am getting a bit more into it these days. Can someone explain to me why top QBs rarely seem to be transferred, for example Burrow.

Is it just a question of that kind of guy earning such big bucks that bringing him in would break salary cap rules ?

When you have a guy like Burrow, you don’t let him go. It would take a massive haul in a trade for us to let him go. QB is by far the most valuableposition, so you’ll do anything to keep a good one. It’s just too much for most teams to give up. It does happen the odd time though, like Stafford and Watson in 21 and 22. The Rams made the Stafford trade as they had a win-now roster and were just missing their star QB at the time, so they took a big hit to get a proper use of the roster. Only the best teams would make those trades, but pretty much every good team has a franchise QB. Therefore, no need to trade for a QB.

Thanks for that pal.

I suppose I’m more looking at it from the perspective of the QB. Like I know the bengals got to the SB a few years back but I can imagine Joe being quite frustrated at how things are currently. Altho maybe had he been fit all season they’d be heading for the playoffs.

No bother.

After Joe’s interview yesterday, it gathered a lot of questions. I took it personally as him telling Mike Brown (Bengals’ owner) to invest more in to the notoriously cheap Bengals. What Joe wants, Joe usually gets. We’ve got a high salary cap space, and we could get a low pick in the draft. I can imagine with the right steps taken we could contend if we get some good free agency pickups and draft well. The problem is as Mike Brown is cheap, the scouting department is as good as useless. We don’t even have a proper GM. Just Duke Tobin who is what I think is the Manager of Player Personnel or something (which makes him Defacto GM). Until Brown prioritizes winning over his bank account, we’ll be building slowly.

Yeah i guess whatever the sport, wherever it's played, it's hard to win things on the cheap.

Not sure if you're in the UK or not but on the sky coverage over here whenever they discuss the Bengals they're not big fans of Zac Taylor

Yeah, I’m in Ireland but I wouldn’t watch it on Sky.

Most Bengals fans aren’t fans of Taylor. I’m not too big a fan but it could be worse. The ownership and front office are much bigger problems, and Taylor consistently scores high on the players association’s report cards, while the ownership and FO are at the other end of the spectrum. I could go on for days about what’s wrong with them.

I do think it’s time for a change of scenery. I don’t like the playcalling and I think he’s taken us as far as we have. If he didn’t make the SB he’d probably be gone by now. We need a defensive guy as HC now. I’d love Minnesota’s DC Flores.

That one hurt…
Think we’re mathematically out now. Time to fire Zac Taylor and Duke Tobin.

Vrabel having a cry that Buffalo who were leading the league in offensive holding didn’t have an offensive holding penalty yesterday…. conveniently forgetting Allen had a TD reversed for OH!

Packers gone from potential 1 seed and Superbowl candidates to season over in the space of 20 mins!! Kraft out, Parsons out, Jacobs on one leg, Watson injured, Jenkins injured, Williams out plus a few more. Gutted!!

Some fantastic games over the next three weeks starting this Friday with Rams v Seahawks. Then -
Packers v Bears
Jaguars v Broncos
Steelers v Lions
Eagles v Bills
Bears v 49ers
Seahawks v 49ers
Chargers v Broncos
Lions v Bears

And it’s live……

Not too many sports so impacted by injuries, despite what haters say about pads etc. Think there were 3 ACLs alone last weekend. Every gameweek 1 or 2 players minimum have their season ended. Playoffs are as much about player availability as ability. Everything has to go your way to win a SB.

Its mental and kind makes the league a bit of a mockery. I genuinely thought the lions had a shot at the superbowl this season and have just had their defense again decimated by injuries. Every week someone is out for the season and feels like the league comes down to who doesn't get the worst injuries.
