2025 Community Shield | Crystal Palace v Liverpool

Finally we are starting to see Slot’s influence on the dippers.
Lots of very expensive and needless spending and unsettling what was a very good side, all being Bingo’s work.
Long may it carry on.

Disagree mate.
I very much care and enjoy those red cunts losing especially when there’s any form of trophy involved.
That’s fair comment, mate. I meant in terms of the relevance to how they will do in the league.

But of course it’s always gratifying to see those cunts lose - and apologies for any confusion around that! :-)

I aint getting ahead of myself winning the. Community shield as proven as a curse in seasons gone by so i hope people realise that, if liverpool won today we'd be saying well the team that wins it usually doesnt win the league, they are going to be a major threat. This season is going into the unknown. Come on blues.

Delighted Palace beat the Dippers just to not have to listen to the over reaction of the media if the dippers had of won it.

Personally I never look too much into the Community Shield when it comes to performance or scoreline, We've been done a few times in the Community Shield yet still cruised the league.

I will stick by one thing that I've said, Salah is finished at the top level. I know he had a remarkable (6 months last season), He went missing for the last 4 months of the season as you could see the decline in his performances and losing that short burst of pace he had over a couple of yards. He looked like thar again today, He is playing like an old man.

Ekitike had a very good game, Again can't make to much of a fuss about it as Darwin Nunez also had a good performance against us a few seasons ago in the Community Shield and turned out to be completely shite.

Let's hope Van Dijk and Salah continue their decline next season. If the dippers get injuries to their back line they are in serious trouble as they have absolutely nothing on the bench.

A ball through the middle second half, I thought Salah was running onto it comfortably and heading towards goal.

Guehi comfortably out-paced him despite being a yard or two behind. It's great to see.

Much as I’d like to get excited about this result, it means fuck all.

The real business starts next weekend.
My dad was always telling me off for enjoying and laughing at any game United lost because they always find a way to get back to the top (not as relevant now as it once was perhaps…) but I always thought, if it may not happen again, then it’s all the more reason to enjoy it when it does!

So fuck it, I say we call them shit and revel in it!

I'm afraid I have to say that I think he's done a good job. Where I do think Liverpool have gone badly wrong is in thinking that extending the contracts of their two best players over the last few years, Van Dijk and Salah, will automatically see them right this season. Dipper fans were giddy about that, but I thought at the time, this may be the “one season too many” syndrome. I still believe that for those two. Ironically, we perhaps did a similar thing in re-signing Gundo and keeping Kev to the end of his contract (although it could be argued that that was the honourable thing on both sides, of course), and not properly refreshing last summer. That's now been corrected.
Dippers have bought well, though, no denying, and they could win the league. So, unquestionably, could we. So, slightly more questionably, could the Arse. Chelsea are outsiders for it. I'm absolutely certain that it's going to be a more interesting season, and a tighter race at the top, than last one.

I thought Vain Dick was fucked about two years ago. Can't remember who they played but he was sluggish and kept losing concentration. Also he's been one of the dirtiest bastards ever to grace the Premiership. You watch him 'defending' corners: he'll grab his opponent and wrestle him to the ground, he'll elbow someone in the face and then move as fast as he can away from them so as not to be caught. Over the years he's gotten away with so many red card fouls the club should donate a small amount of money to PGMOL for being so blinded by his actions.

What are you on about? Its his Debut in a competitive match, whatever one may think of community shield. Since when does anyone count pre season friendlies for debuts?
You make your debut the first time you play for your club you dullard.

Fun game.

I expected Liverpool to dominate and their early goal only reinforced that impression.

But Palace are far better than I thought. Solid on defense and carry a big threat on offense.

Liverpool were lucky not to lose at full time - that Frimpong goal was a lucky fluke - they had a handball penalty that wasn't called - and in spite of controlling the game on offense for the most part - QPR created more dangerous moments.

Takeaways:
Liverpool's defense is a work in progress
Palace are a legit side. If they can retain their top players, I wouldn't be surprised to see QPR to contest for a top 6 place finish (6th place or so looks very possible).

Not sure we can judge that from a community shield game.

We haven't played that well in some and had very successful seasons.

Slot's influence will start to show in a few months. I still think they're gonna miss those full backs. The amount of chances they created were among the highest in the league. Not straight forward for players to come in and play that position and be among the best in the league for chances created.

Mostly agree.

As for "gonna miss those full backs" - did you mispost? Robertson is still in their side.
