2026 Winter Olympics

If there was an award for coming fourth we’d win it hands down!
The skaters were supposed to be in contention for a gold and once again a Fourth

The curling team as well. And they came Fourth!

I think we not only expect too much from them but the media also put the pressure on unfortunately.
It’s a shame because they do deserve better. But hey ho. That’s life. :-)

Fourth is still good, especially for a country that has very little snow and ice these days.

I love watching some of these sports, that I know almost nothing about.

Fingers crossed for the skeleton tomorrow, where we are currently in gold medal position with 2 runs to go, not bad for a country that has no facilities to train on. In the 1980's we were quite good at some of the "sledging" sports, because a lot were military, and based near one of the German runs/ski resorts, and we used to drive over there quite a bit to watch skiing and the other winter sports. If you've never watched it live (bob sleigh/luge/sketeton) it's very good, the speeds of the sliders and even the skiiers is ridiculous.

Watched the moguls yesterday and today, it's a ridicous sport, but fun to watch. Watching the cross country skiing just now, women 10km round a track against the clock, up and down hill. To a woman they get to the line and collapse in a heap, lying in the snow for (often) minutes, utterly exhausted. We've a girl in it who's in 18th place currently, we should celebrate even that, there are 111 in this race, and she's ahead of a lot of them.

Oh I celebrate I just feel sorry for them because they are not recognised. I am in awe of them anyway because of their dedication and commitment. Sorry @cleavers. It’s just the way the media put the pressure on them. :-)

Those skeleton people fascinate and scare me at the same time. The way they come down those sheer walls amazing.

I was just cheering for a Canadian on the snowboard thingies. The one where they come down in fours. If there are no Brits I cheer the Canadians. I’m very patriotic!!

Mind you I’ll probably get slated when I say I find the curling extremely boring! It’s just crown green bowls on ice and I find crown green bowls on green boring as well. :-)

The skeleton guy is in the lead. Goes again tomorrow!

Doesn't matter what the sport, what the competition, the British media inflate British chances beyond what Agatha Christie or Enid Blyton could ever conceive as fiction.

When you think we’re as far North as Alaska and Canada, and there isn’t an inch of the main bulk (ie, non-Alaska) of the USA further North than the South Coast of Britain, Great Britain must be the least Wintry and Winter Sport friendly country above 40° North.

We have no mountains (even our biggest are more like large hills), it rarely snows, it’s fairly rarely even freezing. And even warmer countries like Spain and Italy have mountains with ski resorts.

We do well to get anywhere in Winter sports.

Actually you should see the snow they have in the cairngorms right now, it's been snowing daily since about mid December. They had virtually none last winter though.

With our climate we should be world champions at water polo.

Oh my goodness these women/girls in the half pipe! They have no fear. The height they reach incredible.

What I like about those types of sports is the camaraderie, they seem genuinely chuffed for each other when they do well irrespective of nationality etc. Chloe Kim was extremely gracious in defeat yesterday, I think she was happy to have been physically able to compete. Perhaps the danger involved binds (sorry) them together more but I also think there is a different type of competitive culture. They seem to want to push the boundaries as a group as much as compete against each other.
