I'd been thinking about it for a while.

In a sort of 4231 with attacking fullbacks like Mendy and Cancelo, those 4 would offer so much energy in front.

The problem is that it would be best with one of Rodri or Gundogan in the midfield 2, and everyone says they need energetic midfield partners to be most effective and KdB is probably the perfect partner for that, it's probably best to preserve him now and play him in a deeper position.

I say wide fullbacks also because I'd like the front 3 to be allowed to play narrow, think they'd be wasted out wide. Spains fullbacks today went very wide often and the wingers had so much freedom.

Relying on the FBs for width means more deeper crosses and less pullbacks. We don't have the forwards to rely on the FBs for width. This was the problem we had in alot of the games we dropped points in. It's no coincidence in my mind that we didn't win or even compete for the title the one season Sane wasn't about. Our wide left area was a creativity-free zone last season.

Part of the problem also was with Dave (as much as I love him) in the squad. He overloaded the left and lined up right alongside Sterling at times who was inverted. Mendy had to provide width out wide and Rodri had to try to cover the space behind. Compare that to our right side when Walker went forward it was Kev who stayed back to cover.

I could be wrong, but what I'm seeing is that if Torres is on the left (even though he's right footed) he would hug the touchline with Foden or Bernardo in the middle and Mendy staying back more having more balance. Similarly to Mahrez on the right, Torres, when he gets the ball on the wing can cut inside or play a ball into Foden/Bernardo who could link up with Jesus/Aguero. All of them are a goal threat. Something Silva was not. Also if Torres does cut inside with the ball then Foden or Bernardo could do what Kev does on the right and make a run toward the byline to put in a cross. Mendy (or if it's Ake) could make a run from deeper to put in a cross as well, but this would allow the LB to be more in a more defensive position like Walker on the right where they are able to defend against counter attacks better. Foden/Bernardo could stay back to help defend if Mendy goes forward. Again something that Silva couldn't do because of age, pace etc.

I hope fans will be patient with the player

Not much has come out about Torres in training. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Some players arrive and people get really giddy about - and inside City show loads of them. That doesn't seem to happen with Ferran. Wonder if he'll be our version of Chelsea's Willian. A solid reliable winger who's important to the squad but never really that standout individual. Think his free kick winning ability might reap rewards for De Bruyne
