Contract ends June 2023. He’s on around £100k a week before the addition of the inevitable bonuses. I suppose we’ve written down about two thirds of his initial fee. A loan next year seems almost inevitable with City probably paying a proportion of his wage. Whatever the reasons, when one of these long term deals goes pear shaped the consequences are meaningful. We all saw him in action he looked a fantastic addition. At least we haven’t extended his contract Phil the face style.

If you are thinking like that there are only a couple of league games left. But season isn't yet over and there will be a few more games he will be playing before the final.

He doesn't seem to have a 4th gear and/or so slow in spotting danger. Would love to see his stats on successful crosses/passes into the box as he just seems to smash it in in hope

His positional play is non-existent and that’s his big problem -he simply doesn’t know how to defend and this was true prior to his injury. This was tolerated however due to what he offered going forward, even if he was extremely one-dimensional, and the injury has just tipped the balance against him.

Unfortunately he doesn’t have enough to justify remaining in the squad and apart from the odd cross here or there he’s effectively a non-defending, non-attacking full back.

Hi Tony. I suspect Zinch was emotionally shot after PSG (he looked it) and Walker needed a rest. I know it’s a bummer but odds on Utd drop at least 2 points this week.... and we will beat Newcastle and Brighton and I suspect then Pep will sit out as many key players as possible against Everton before the final. Peps playing the season long game and I don’t think he will have trouble sleeping tonight. Even with Sergios balls up we could easily have got a point today but I suspect even that would not have satisfied many on this forum.

Every City fan knows Mendy’s time is up and we will have to let the transfers / loans play out this summer. I don’t think that he will be easy to shift.
Pep plays the long game for sure and that means playing out of favour players when he gets the opportunity. That wins a lot over time.

But I feel he fucks up plenty too as we've seen with defeats to Liverpool, Chelsea and United over the past few years. All games that are bigger than normal ones.

IMO he started with a strange formation and players who should only be coming on as subs if all is well. And he didnt take the bold move to change immediately when he saw it was not right. We all saw that us winning today would only be in spite of our approach. Only he knows if the players couldn't play. But imo he should have risked it. This game was critical.

He's great. And we are lucky to have him. But he frustrates me sometimes.

(On Mendy though- I like him as a player. I think he passes well and isn't a terrible defender at all, he's OK ..however he had no pace today. It was just not the right match for him today. He was doomed before it began. )

Just let him go out on a subsidised loan, no big deal, just needs to go. Fuck the finances, he’s wank.

Again, as I’ve said before, I’ll add that it’s the injuries that have killed him, but it is what it is. Get rid.
Very harsh , but true , no room for sentimentality at our level of football , now not good enough and third choice left back , and we will have to pay half his wages to get rid , although little fault of his own a disastrous signing

Don’t think it was a disastrous signing, he’s just not the player we bought after his injury. When he played against us for Monaco at the Etihad he was awesome. The sad fact is that he’s lost at least a yard of pace since.

He was really shit today.

It is not just because he is slow as fuck because of his past injuries.

He literally has zero situational awareness also.

Just wonders all over the Pitch.

I get the feeling he hasn't got a fucking clue what he is being asked to do in Pep system. So just wonders around.

Astonishing that Pep keeps picking him in games

Gives me this vibe every time he plays:

There was a glimmer of hope in his previous performance, but yesterday he reverted to type - fucking awful. He was indecisive, out of position, and so fucking slow.
I don't think James will play an easier game.

Do we need a left back?? Yes we do,badly.

No it isn’t. He was unlucky after he went chasing after the ball. The medical staff even allowed him to continue if I remember correctly

He sustained the injury by tackling with his ‘wrong’ foot, so that his knee joint was exposed to being bent outside to in. I’ve seen him try to tackle like that on 3 or 4 occasions since as well. No learning curve whatsoever

The injuries have obviously effected him but those apart , is he any good?

He injured his knee, not his brain, not his ability to understand football.

He is not a very intelligent player on the pitch for me, and is simply a poor signing.
