Interesting comment about Mendy in Sam Lee's latest article for The Athletic.

Benjamin Mendy, a peripheral figure on the pitch, has been key for morale with his relentless quest to have fun and he has impressed coaches by continuing to be happy and supportive even when left out of the team, wishing his mates good luck and offering hugs and advice.

I am not sure he will ever get back to a decent level due to the injuries he has had but he has made a bigger contribution to this years success than many realise.
Fair play to the lad for maintaining such an attitude and outlook,it must be killing him knowing he is so much better than his body has dictated.

A real shame as that lad at Monaco would have improved this team tremendously.

Hallelujah FI. At last someone being supportive of Benny. I said it time and again he was great when he arrived and injuries have wrecked him. Some of the comments in this thread are terrible.
Thanks Benny here’s hoping you can somehow improve strength and agility and get back to somewhere near your best

I'm actually not so sure. Yeah, he was faster prior to injuries - but his defensive frailty can't be something new - nor his overall poor football skill (passing, ball retention, first touch, positional awareness and so forth).

At Monico, Mendy excelled at hitting a pacy ball into the box - MBappe or Neymar were often proximate and a goal sometimes resulted.

IMO, Mendy's top season at Monaco was an aberration - not indicative of his actual ability. Mendy's actual ability is evident now, in our side - he's lost a bit of pace, for sure, but that doesn't explain the numerous non-pace related defects in his game.

Neymar?

Some of the comments are justified because Mendy has been largely terrible when he's played. His injuries have taken their toll and he's simply not good enough, nor reliable enough when he does play.

So calling a city player a “fucker”, waste of space etc… is justifiable to you? Fair enough if that’s how you want to show your support

Well lets talk about crap City players..Mahrez,Stones,Zinchenko,Torres,Gundogan..all slated in the last 12 months on this forum..and now ??? I would love him to come back and be the player we bought..am sorry, when he wears blue I will support him and keep hoping..great attitude, keeps trying and just needs confidence and to regain a little pace which comes with game time.

After a day of wonderfully mixed emotions, one lingering memory is that of the brainless idiot Mendy attempting to get attention on TV by pulling, tripping, kicking fellow players as they celebrated. Apparently, not a single thought given to the little matter of another match coming up for them on Saturday.

Mendy is an embarrassment on many levels - The sooner he is dumped out of the club, the better.

Meh - I enjoy Mendy's antics for the most part - the Shark Team concept was genius!

As a footballer though - he's not good enough for our side - not by a long shot. If we can move him on - we'll be better off - freeing a squad slot for a much better player.

Who would he cross it to? Unless we get a proper striker to replace Kun.

Well in Monaco he wasn't exactly crossing at a giant in Falcao - it was all about the precision and the pace of his crosses, he could just find someone in the box and all they had to do was deflect it in.

The lad has to go, i am not going to slag him off but he has spent virtually the entire 4 years playing badly, mainly because his touch, pace or understanding has been lost while out, i believe we will have to pay him off but it will be worth it, if we get someone reliable and that is not hard to find.

Don’t be so harsh, pleas.

It is all about injuries. He is the favorite player in dressing room. The team needs that kind of players too. Atmosphere is very important.
