Probably best to try and move Stones and Ake on because neither can stay injury free.
Agree but problem there is , thats 2 home grown players we would be letting go, along with potentially Grealish that would mean pretty much all our new recruits would have to be homegrown

Whsr a fucked up situation. Would’ve rather seen Reis and Khusanov as backup for Gvardiol and Dias. The HG thing is a very lucky thing for some players

I'm not sure how many players we can keep who are already backups to certain spots.

To me, it seems like Khusanov is already a "backup to the backup" (Stones, Ake, Akanji) to the main CBs (Gvardiol and Dias), and Reis below that.

Maybe it's worth keeping him if we aggressively sell all 3 of Stones, Ake and Akanji, but I'm guessing only 1 or 2 of them get sold.

if they keep him in England, least he can become HG by 21. (im sure he makes the cutoff) Interested to see the plan with him.

And it won't be Akanji because he is a Pep fave imo.

Nathan and Jonny Boy are far superior players. Just unfortunately both made of glass. I always feel reassured when both are in the team.

I don't get that reassurance with Akanji, and fwiw Ruben these days.....

We signed Reis and Khusanov for more than Real Madrid have paid for Huijsen.

Expensive prospects so it'll be interesting to see how they develop.
But pep doesnt seem to be interested in developing them. We currentlty arent in a postion to let them develop in first team either. So was baffling tbh wed of been much bettter off putting the money together and getting an established CB

On a different note, I certainly didnt think Huijsen was all that on Tuesday, I know mentally he’s probably on the beach already, but this socks rolled down, skinny, strolling about type isn’t my kind of centre half (nor is it what RM need in their defence right now imo)

We haven’t seen much of either but neither looks first-team ready, and if Guardiola’s preference is for a small squad, then we’d be better to sell with buy-back clauses.
I’d use the summer tournament as an opportunity to compare all the young backs and keep 1.

He's similar to Pau Torres and Savic, they aren't blessed with physicality but they read the game perfectly well.

Yes but shouldnt this have all been agrred with pep and board of what page were on? Before the January splurge? It all screams of panic in January. If pep didnt want them 2 CBs why buy them?

I always read the opponent’s forums after games and their support was disappointed in him. I thought he looked good on the ball, playing a peach of a forward pass in the first half, which neither Dias nor Akanji could have managed, and his tussle with Haaland was a foretaste to come. Oddly enough, that was the first time they’d come up against each other this season for any meaningful length of time and no quarter was given by either party. He’s stronger than he looks and that’s a rematch we should look forward to in the coming years.

I’ve said in other threads that we should sell/loan one of our backs to Bournemouth, as the rate of development there exceeds what we can manage should they stay.

Investment, we look at the squad this year, pep looks at the squad this year. DOF has to balance that with where the squad will be and wants to be in year 1, 3 and 5. Its a hell of a balancing act getting the jump on potential with other clubs all doing the same, when you cant just buy in order of need etc. CB is gonna be a pressing need with age profiles, contracts and injury records on at least 2-3 an issue soon if not now on some.

(at a guess anyway)

Pep only has one more game to tell 6 they arent making the team before sales start over the summer. Get it down to normal numbers and crack on.
