Haven’t read back through the thread but I thought he was really promising.

He wasn’t quite as aerially dominant as I’d ideally have hoped for in a CB, but what struck me on the plus side most of all was his speed of moving the ball.

When we were building up or playing it in the arc across the back line to switch play he was so quick and efficient. He was using 2 quick touches or sometimes just transferring it instantly with only 1 touch. Far quicker than any of our other centre backs than I can recall. That kind of vision and composure and skill is going to come in very useful esp against tougher more mobile opponents where we need to transition and move the play quickly.

I thought he did well in his Ariel duels, gets up well.

I thought his aerial strength was the standout thing about his performance yesterday.

His ceiling is very high, almost as high as the defensive line Pep is intent on keeping.

If Rodri and Nico are in front of him I'd play him and Khusanov as a central pairing in a lot of games next season.

He needs to be protected and his confidence built in a 'good system'.

That video sums up the difficulty involved in playing as a Pep defender.
His contributions were essentially two types:
A. Headers and the odd last ditch clearance in the City box.
B. Passes made almost entirely well into the opponents half.

Basically you are a mix of an old school defender good at 1 v 1 or 3 v 3s, and a deep lying playmaker.

Pretty tough pair of skills to combine.

Could see us not going for Huijsen if those 2 keep up. Since Bah is also coming in 26. who is another huge prospect.

Didn’t get expect him to be so dominant in the air. Regardless of the opposition, it was a very encouraging display.

The summer should be interesting. With Viana as our new DOF, I wouldn’t be surprised to see another couple brought in that very few of us have seen play.
