He had a poor game but his character is undeniable. He almost always seems to bounce back after a poor play looking full of confidence in his next touch of the ball.

How many if you are sayimg he's not a left back? Are you bonkers? He played for RB there and the NT and now us, yes it's true his position will be centre back once he matures — with the performances he's turning in I doubt we'll get the chance to see him move centrally unless he improves 10 fold. Slow and ponderous with a couple of mistakes a game in him, not what we were sold as the best up amd coming defender I'm europe imho. I believe he will be fine eventually but he's so slow and ponderous I'd rather have Ake in.
are YOU bonkers? he didn’t play lb for leipzig, just a bit after he joined them. he didn’t play lb for 2 years before city.

his natural and primary position is cb, he will play whatever is asked of him without moaning and complaining though.

he will be switched to lb for our national team for the next two games because we only have 2 lbs, one is in meh form, the other one was dropped because of back to back disasterclasses in last two games. me on a couch with my kindle and a bottle of red wine would be a better solution on that pitch than that tree stump. so it’s joško at lb cause it’s an emergency, not cause he’s a bad cb ffs. none of our other cbs are as versatile, not even close.

he had an utterly horrible brain fart yesterday, he needs to do better.
i knew it was coming after that stat about him not causing an error leading to a goal bla bla was posted.

anyway, he’s responsible and to blame for his stupid errors, which position he plays or why city didn’t buy a “proper” lb - not his decisions.

People are gonna say he can't play left back and that he's a centre half just because Carragher said so yesterday on commentary. Utter bollocks. Neville was calling him Maldini a couple of weeks ago FFS. Looks fine to me, just a brain fart for the goal, and carragher talking shit and people gobbling that shit up

He’s been excellent. Yesterday he struggled a little and made a couple of errors. No big deal. Folk look far too deeply into things. I’ve no doubt he will go back to being the imperious player he has been so far when back from the international break.

Yeah this is it really. Has hit a bumpy patch of form but it's no biggie. Christ how many mistakes did Kompany have under his belt by the time he retired. It's an occupational hazard of being a defender. Everyone has brainfarts and bad moments.

After the mistake with the second goal he seemed to settle down. But in addition to being a bit unsettled, I do feel like the lack of control in the midfield was making it tough for all the defenders. Lots of fast breaks or almost fast breaks.

I think forums are a tough place for defenders. Because with a team this good, most goals are going to be from a mistake. Every game that one of them has a mistake, everyone is basically like “they’re terrible, Ake/Akanji/whomever is 100x better.” And then the next week one of them has a shocker and it’s the other way around.

I’ve seen a lot of comments about why we bought him. I assume because he’s 21. He may not be as good or consistent as Ake or Akanji or Laporte, but at some point you have to lower the age of the back line.

I dont think he is great so far, pretty much is having the usual first season at City, like many others did with lots of mediocre and good performances not too many great ones, only to turn into a fantastic player from second season. some dont need it like Haaland, but the way, tempo we are playing will do this to many talented young players.

on poor ability (and experience) imo he is easier above where Stones, Ake, Akanji, Dias were at same age, no wonder for the price tag.

but he will need this season to be like 5/10 or 6/10 before it really clicks for him and delivers top top seasons...

He didn't get support from Doku or Grealish (as frequently happens to Ake) . Fast opponents running into the space around him exposed his lack of pace .
He didn't get support from Doku. You can leave Grealish out of it. (Although I appreciate your usual tedious agenda against Jack is the reason you're dragging him into it here when Jack's defensive contribution is always 10x that of Doku. And to imply Jack doesn't frequently help out Ake is frankly ludicrous and laughable.)

Wow -touched a nerve there didn't I. Maybe a Football Forum is not a 'safe space' for someone so easily offended at any hint of criticism of a multi millionaire footballer who couldn't give a fuck what you or I ever say on here.

He needs a left back to offer some protection.

Offensively It seems like Josko heavily prefers to shifting ball to the right and often ignore the player to his left no matter it is Bernado Doko or Grealish. ( not only in this game) it is quite strange for a left footed defender.

I’m not sure this is the case. The Athletic does these charts for a lot of games and they almost always show a pretty even distribution to the players around him. Rodri is in the middle and gets a lot, but that’s the case with every player and probably at the direction of Pep. I attached screenshots from two games here. Also, you can see the most valuable passes are always to the players on the left (valuable meaning most likely to create).

so first you accuse him of ignoring other players and passing to kova instead, now he’s ignoring the player to his left? and he’s doing all that while the best coach on the planet and his staff are watching?

why would pep tolerate such horrible behavior?

I don’t think of this guy when I think of our summer signings, despite him being the most expensive.

He just feels like he has been at the club longer and that’s a huge compliment!

Needs to play Saturday
Does he? I'm a big fan of his but Ake gets the nod for me at left back if he's fully fit. No shade on josko, just that extra stability and experience from Ake makes him the better choice.

I'd actually play them both and have one of them partnering akanji in the middle and drop Dias who has been by far and away the worst defender this season but that's just not going to happen.

I think Gavrdiol might be better suited to that role Akanji has been playing in Stones' absence at CB. Really comfortable on the ball and he has that ability to move forward and into midfield much more naturally than Akanji which for the best will in the world is a stretch for him.

One thing he needs to do if he does play LB is improve on his performance against Chelsea otherwise salah will cause us huge problems.
