I like him but he reminds me of Lescott and Mangala in terms of the error strewn aspects of his performance. Yeah he’s young etc but he’s played a lot of games and he’s still all over the shop defensively and very weak for a big lad.
Very weak indeed, for a Croat too, its surprising. Laporte joined us when he was 23 and you look how dominating he was from the get go. No doubt Josko is an incredible footballer but Pep is doing him no favours but playing him in a posistion that exposes all his weaknesses.

He may not be as consistently physically strong as you’d like, but even if you never watched RBL or Croatia, City has produced plenty of highlights bossing people around. (He has mentioned he’s lost a lot of weight because of how he’s being asked to play, but that’s not his fault.)

You and a few others really, really seem to dislike him. It’s odd because this thread seems to be only people that want him out asap and those who feel some obligation to protect him. No middle ground. I suppose that’s social media and I suppose the truth lies somewhere in between.

I'm just calling how I see it, no offense intended.

maybe my expectations were too high but he's been a huge disappointment personally. I really expected someone so much more defensively solid for all the plaudits he received. painfully average.

I rate him highly and want to see him in the team where there is midfield control, provides support to defence line, presses from the front.

we could put van Dijk, Saliba, Gabriel into our defence these days and I bet they would be laughed off most games. van Dick alone would go crazy at midfield players not helping out or if KDBs man have a free run at defence.

He would look and perform much better defensively playing for teams like Atlético Madrid or Inter Milan, for example.

The way Manchester City plays really leaves players more exposed defensively. Not helping City midfield is currently terrible and I think even top defenders would strugle.

Not defending him, just saying.

after listening to pep’s interviews and seeing today’s starting xi, i now believe he ruined his career, until proven otherwise.

you can’t make this shit up

What did he say that makes you think that?
stuff like we have 1 central defender only, he doesn’t seem to perceive him as a cb at all. he’s only switched to cb when there’s an injury or something and subs need to made and things go to shit anyway (second half curse).

he wasn’t called the best young cb by kids on twitter btw, it wad football professionals. year and a half after joining he’s still almost permanently stuck there with other options being always injured ake and well, rico lewis.

„ ruined his career „ you know that he can easily move elsewhere and actually play as a CB? He would easily find another club. Don’t know what he doesn’t do what the other CB‘s of City can do when he played as a CB in Leipzig. Paying 100M to then play as a LB isn’t his fault but the fault of Pep who just doesn’t wanna buy an actually fullback for whatever reasons. Quite funny that gvardiol carried us at the start of the season and to some degree last season too with his goals.
We just have no one else who can play as a LB so of course he has to play there.

well, you do realize i am not joško gvardiol? that is just my opinion until circumstances change.

it’s not that he plays lb, it’s that he plays lb almost exclusively. yes, there aren’t other options, his development as a cb doesn’t exist.

it was 90m euros, cca 77,5m pounds btw

Would be ideal as a winger back. We have no luxury to play him on the left winger, but with proper 3-4-3 sistem, and good LCB, we can move him even forward on the pitch.

Carried the team on his back again today, dragged everyone up when we needed it most, so silky on the ball and wants to make things happen, I feel like his runs inspired Nunes to try the same and led to his goal.

Hope the lad can get some rest, I put the brain fart moments down to just being tired.

My POTS so far personally.

Think it's easy to forget he's only 23. He looked like one of the veterans out there today and dragged us back in it. I think with a more settled team around him, in time he will be a world-beater.
