25 | Gianluigi Donnarumma - 2025/26

Mint shot stopping. A tad weak on corners. But their delivery on those was ridiculously accurate which didn’t help.

But if it wasn’t for him then they’d have scored a lot more than 2.

Just watched the goal again. Barnes leaves the field of play (he goes into the net), to then challenge Donna. I expect my keeper the be stronger but if Barnes doesn’t leave the field, he can’t challenge him,

Some good saves but his worst game when it came to set pieces. He was getting far too busy with their players rather than attacking the ball like he did V Arsenal

Other teams are starting to target him on set pieces now, we are seeing the same dodgy moments from them and relying on getting fouls given in our favour isn't a viable option. Either he needs to stop being so weak, or we've got to set up a blocker or two around him to protect him. But if we are doing that, we are surrendering some defensive stability so he then has to come for every ball.

We also have to come up with a much better way of playing from the keeper. We saw with the suicide pass to Bernardo inside a minute, he can't play out so we have to do one of two things, find a route out from wide positions when pressed high, or if we are going to lump it upfront, we have to actually target haaland and we have to put players in and around him for flick ons and lay offs, as it is whether its donnarumma or one of the back 4 that launches it, it's generally out of panic and its rarely ever actually close to haaland and it is rarer still that we'll have a player close by him.

Other teams are targeting him and it is basically a form of cheating.

When you are going for the ball and about to jump or jumping being strong doesn’t come into it, little twats can easily disturb your motion.

Gigi does need to make sure he focuses on the ball and does not grapple with opponents. I do thick Doku should be assigned to blocking duty.

I hate watching other teams corners and them comparing them to the shit we serve up week in week out. It’s frustrating as hell that the same players keep taking them and we don’t seem to have worked on them at all!

This isn’t a Donnaruma point but we don’t seem to have any aggression in our attacking or defending - we seem far too busy with the opposition than concentrating on the ball

The whole corner thing is getting ridiculous and almost impossible to referee as it stands. What next? players lifted to get to the ball like in RU? We already have a phalanx of blockers disrupting the defence without any intention of going anywhere near the ball. Its down to referees as the more physical it gets the more it is open to interpretation and inconsistent refereeing. Physical pushing pulling and holding - impeding a player while the ball is in play is a foul and they need to get back to that immediately. I don't blame Donna or any other goalkeeper looking flaky under crosses in these situations.
Thanks Arsenal.

Best shot stopper in the world. He's really poor at crosses though. Getting targeted.
My thoughts too - he kept us in the game with some unbelievable saves but I think the coaches need to tell him that this is not a European league and whereas it was technically a foul on him it would be better to use his strength and frame to just take control of the crosses. He kind of stopped half expecting a refs whistle and that cost us.

We forget he is still young for a keeper and in a new league where refs play on even if the keeper is touched. Donna has been a big plus so far.

Least issue in the loss - we lost because as a team we missed some great chances. Someone has to step up when Erling doesn't score.

I agree. World class at shot stopping, but really poor on corners or free kicks into the box. Always seems to punch the ball out
+1
Donnarumma has his weaknesses - command of the box on corners; above average but not awesome at passing; prone to pass the ball right to an opponent once every two games or so if pressed. But on form, he's the world best keeper and more important - he's our #1.

No keeper is perfect - and, in spite of my misgivings mostly about his passing ability - Donnarumma has obviously made a massive improvement to our defense.

for someone who is 6 foot 5 he is incredibly soft

amazing shot stopper but if he had the bravery of Ederson he would be the best keeper ever...techincally he beats ederson in every other metric (besides passing) but Ederson was fearless.....If Donarumma could get that he would be unbeatable ..needs to man up on crosses and using his size to dominate
