We pay the big bucks for the second half and just have to put up with that first half.
This. Our gameplan doesn’t revolve around our goalkeeper being mustard with the ball at his feet anymore - we need somebody there to make saves when it comes to crunch time.
Obviously he’ll get the ball during the game and needs to distribute it but the way some people go on, you’d think that if he can’t make a pass then our whole tactics fall down. They don’t. He’s there as a get out clause for centre halves if they can’t pass to; the other centre half, Rodri, the full backs or the wingers. Same for Trafford when he plays. And it was the same with Ederson for the past 2/3 seasons because teams stopped pressing.
If he wasn’t making saves then it’d be an issue. But he is and he’s making important ones at that. He was also good on crosses and corners yesterday I thought. When he had the chance to get there, he did.
And personally, I’d like to see the same energy given to praising him for the quick distribution that set up the winning goal as I’m seeing for the mistake in the first half.
