I don’t see Ake going for more than £40m but the point still stands. Even Chelsea who were scattergun in the summer wouldn’t go higher than £40m.

But ability alone doesn’t determine the fee. It’s how valuable is the player to the selling club. Fofana was Leicester’s jewell, Ake is maybe our 5th choice CB. So I’m not sure we can command a fee of anything over £40m.
