I don't even fault him for the goal it was a clusterfuck all around. Overall he's been a good buy imo and Pep clearly loves him

Makes Mangala look like Beckenbauer on the ball. He is a big lad but seems frightened to death of getting physical. For me he is being carried at the minute by others and not standing out like Dias is.

He is a fine backup and I expect he will be on the bench should we sign Gvardiol or someone in the summer.

He was playing very aggressive at first. Dominating.
He won his place in starting lineup with that style. Today he was soft letting Jota play that ball. He also missed the ball few times. Average game for him.

Certainly didn't play as poorly as some are suggesting
There always has to be someone that gets the brunt of criticism, even when we humiliate the opposition.

“Yeah, we may have schooled them after being caught out for basically the only real shot on target they had all match, but Akanji is absolute shite and is the reason we didn’t score 20!”

Just looked at their goal again. Dias ran back and then stood still whilst Akanji made the initial block, he then at least tried to get to the ball before Salah.

Goal definitely not down to him imo

Lol

Gakpo got him a couple of times and was a bit lazy on the goal. Should've come up sooner for the offside trap. He wasn't terrible overall, stood out because everyone else was so good yesterday.

He's still in his first season at City so there are growing pains but seems like a nice, hardwiring guy. Stones, Laporte, Ake have all gone through stages where it seems all of their screw ups end in a chance for the opposition. He'll be alright though.

The offside was very tight, hard to blame Akanji for that. He certainly wasn’t responsible for letting Jola have the freedom of the centre of the pitch or leaving Sarah unmarked.

Why blame anyone. Liverpool had one if those clinical quick transitions that is a trademark. City can learn from any errors but overall, they defended really well.

I like that back line that we played yesterday. Makes us a big side as well as technical. Akanji fits in well and we just seem to be better with Dias playing LCB and Stones is looking the best choice to go from RB to double-pivot.

Hopefully Pep has found his blueprint for the rest of the season and Akanji looks like part of that.

Better don't watch Rodri in that situation then, wasn't arsed to close Salah down somehow... ;)

Guess who's our CB on most minutes played this season:
the "fine backup" as you say... LOL

What a perfect decision to sign Akanji! We didn't have to worry for a single minute up to now about being short of CBs.

Akanji is a top smart bloke and Pep loves to work with those players.
Thanks again Txiki!

He has been playing because Laporte has his nose out of joint, Dias and Stones have had injuries and Ake is now playing Lb.

I am relieved that he has been there and availability is the best asset you can give Pep but he is a backup CB when all things are equal.

Dont ask me why but I’m mostly worried about him to set a brain fart pass against Bayern to cost us the game. Need to be on 110% against them as his performance against Liverpool wasn’t that good imo.

Didn’t think he was great today. Worried about him against teams like Bayern.

Couldn't agree more. He's a worry and likely to be exposed against the top teams, always has major clanger in him.
Can't believe he gets a game ahead of Laporte.

He isn't aggressive in duels and opponents use that against him.
He should also go stronger in duels.

Him against Bayern will fear me don’t think he should play but with no other defender matchfit he will play. Laporte should play but no minutes in his legs beside international games.
