Absolute class tonight. Had an extra bit of aggression to his game which he tends to lack at times and that's often what causes errors from him.

We put a lot of pressure on him in this system. he's the one that has to see everything unfurling before everyone else and then either take up the centre back position or right back role depending on the situation, that's a very demanding role, ake and Dias don't have to worry about that nearly as much and stones will make his own decision, akanji has to react to things out of his hands and then make the correct decision every single time. We probably aren't appreciating how difficult that is just yet. I look forward to seeing just how good he can be next season with the standard adjustment period over with.

I'm what you'd call a bit of an "Akanji doubter" but he really stood up tonight. Couple of hairy moments in the first half but was note perfect for the last hour. Did a lot of work up and down the line and gave great service and support to Bernardo. He was under a lot of pressure with Sane and Coman switching wings as well - really good to see.

Just watching the game back. How good was Akanji's timing on his tackles? I don't think he's got it that right in any other game this season. And against tricky, speedy players.

Really, really like him personally. He has every attribute needed to be a top class centre back plus his mentality seems brilliant as well.

Last night was a masterclass in aggressive, front-foot defending.

That role as the right side of a 3 helps him use his power and comfort on the ball but has less last ditch defending there. Think it suits him.

That was his best game in a City shirt, simply superb. He was aggressive and the timing of his tackles in the main was spot on.

I know once or twIce he got skinned (which can happen to any full back against speed merchants) last night but I thought especially on the ball he was good last night.
