Obviously it’s Khusanov’s mistake, but it’s crap hy Akanji too. Gets far too close to Khusanov for no reason (and is therefore out of position) and then makes absolutely no effort to get back either

If that's Dias. I reckon he comes over, takes out Khusanov and the ball and it's booted out of the stadium. Reset on the throw in and we go again.

I can't find a clip but it's on the highlights of when Chelsea broke and Palmer over hit a tap in cross. Akanji is just jogging whilst Khusanov is sprinting. Khusanov then ends up getting the block whilst Akanji is stood there.

Miserable souls need scapegoats. If it's not Nunes, it's Gundo (a proper legend) or Akanji or Gvardiol: the players who start every game because other players can't stay fit.

They are miserable and have nothing going on in their life’s it seems. Nunes has to be world class at every position he plays and Akanji the only non injured and stable CB who is playing for weeks nonstop is getting hate too.

So hes immune from criticism because he stays fit. The bare minimum id expect from a professional footballer. I mean seriously.

He should be immune from stupid, ott criticism, given he is being overplayed due to being the only fit CB. He's been as important to our success in the previous two seasons as the other defenders. A bit more respect is the minimum he deserves.

He is the exact same as he was the day he signed and from what Dortmund fans will tell you, his years spent there also. That's nothing to do with being over played.
Quite funny that he is the only one who fits that bare minimum. Make it sense
Well it's not funny, its embarrassing and signing Reis and Khuskhnov are hopefully one step from the club towards fixing that. Stones, Ake and Dias are on borrowed time on that front.

Make it sense? What does that mean.

In the Treble season, Akanji was brilliant in multiple positions across the defensive line, at RB vs Bayern, at LB vs Real, at CB vs other teams. He's our most versatile defender, the type Pep likes the most.

Last season, he helped us win 4 in a row, certainly no less than the other defenders. Pep decided to drop him in the final vs United and that was a mistake. Pep tried to save the game by bringing him on after the break and we did better, but the damage was already done.

Akanji is an amazing signing at 15m. Thank you Dortmund for being silly.

I have criticised Akanji at times these last two seasons but I’m not sure he can be blamed in any way for the opener last night.

To me his biggest fault is that he thinks he’s a better footballer than he actually is.

He was brilliant in his first season as a no thrills, steady defender who could play in any position along the back line.

A 20 year old on his debut after three training sessions who doesn’t speak a word of English… Akanji’s just got to clear that ball and Khusanov into the stand there. Either that or stay out of the way completely and give Khusanov room and don’t distract him.

Jesus, we are going back years to talk about his good performances now.

He's had lots of good performances and lots of not good ones. There has however been some parts of his game which is there even in his good games.

It's allowed to say he could have done a lot better yesterday and helped the young lad out. Yesterday doesn't define his entire career here.

Absolutely brilliant during the treble season, but gives me no confidence these days when I see him @ CB. Much more comfortable with him at RB but honestly right now Nunes doing decent there.

Needs to go back to basics. And yesterday I think he did. A lot more solid and composed I thought. His pros are his pace, positioning, aggression and strength - no messing about too much on the ball.

As for blaming him for their goal. Come on. I mean seriously, have a fucking word if you think that’s his fault.

Khusanov isn’t a make a wish winner, he’s a footballer bought for big money and trusted by management to play in the game. Akanji shouldn’t treat him differently than he would any other partner at the back. Would he clean Dias out in the same position? No. He’s not exactly played with Khusanov to know what he was going to do either.

I'm happy people defend Khusanov, the crowd was great and helped him to get better. But blaming Akanji for the goal is a bit over the top.

Manu was really good yesterday after Khusanov's poor 5-6 mins. He understood the assignment and felt he guided the younger CB really well.

I've criticized his aerial ability and leadership skills (leading the line, taking charge, etc) before but he was good yesterday. He's a senior player and that's how he should be.

How on earth Pep allows him to build out from the back is baffling. His decision making is ponderous all he does is slow down play.
He probably wouldn't be playing in that position if everyone was fit.
He's having to play that role because there is no one else to do it.

"He was brilliant in his first season"

What a crock.

In his first season he had numerous lapses, since he has been superb.
