He is back to his clumsy worst for me.
You won't win a popularity contest with that statement.Over 150 touches and 99,3 % pass accuracy last night. Basically, Akanji completed something like 119 from 120 passes vs. Brugge. Must be a record in the CL for players who completed over 100 passes.

Seriously though, people are cribbing about Akanji whilst the main issue is that he is fit while Stones, Ake and Dias are driving to training in mobility scooters.
He wouldn't be getting half the game time if all were available and Dias and Stones would be a more favourable combination but when is that going to happen.
Kyle Walker also made the the team of the Euros as well, so I wouldn’t use that as a measuring stick!Akanji played more minutes in the Treble season than the other defenders when Dias, Stones and Ake were mostly fit. Pep rates him much higher than most fans. And not only Pep. He was our only defender who made the team of the Euros last summer together with Rodri. Go figure.

Why did there have to be an English player in the team? And why so was it Walker?Akanji was excellent with Switzerland.
I had forgotten about Walker, but there had to be at least one English player in the team of the tournament for obvious reasons. That Walker was chosen tells more about the performances of his team-mates than about those of Akanji or Rodri.
The biggest accolade for Akanji is that Pep appreciates him, certainly more than some of our fans.
Lack of effort? Given he has played 90 minutes every 3-4 days for 2 months now while the other CBs can't stay fit and play, it's a bit silly to blame him for lack of effort. Why did there have to be an English player in the team? And why so was it Walker?
You made a point about him being in the team of the tournament as if that justifies him being a great player. The fact Walker was in that side just shows it to be a nonsensical point.
People are pissed off with him for his lack of effort as much as his poor performances. The first time they broke last night, he was out of position again, just like at the weekend. Yet instead of of bursting a lung to get back, he was just jogging. There’s been plenty of occasions that’s happened this season as well.
Yes a distinct lack of effort. He’s a centre half how much ground do you think he covers in those games?Lack of effort? Given he has played 90 minutes every 3-4 days for 2 months now while the other CBs can't stay fit and play, it's a bit silly to blame him for lack of effort.
Again, Pep appreciates him. He contributed a lot to the Treble and the 4 in a row. If some fans can't appreciate his effort, it's their problem.

If you want to talk about the treble season, he was fucking awful as we were conceding goals for fun in the league with one of the worst defences around when he was the starting centre back until Novemeber! It’s only when he got taken out of the side for Dias when we improved.
His only use is out wide, I can count on one hand the amount of times he’s played well at centre half.
He almost cost us the league against Spurs! And if you think he made the difference against United then your just flat out delusional.Pep used Akanji at CB when we had to win the final 9 league games last season. And when we were losing the FA Cup final he subbed him on immediately after the break to help us turn the game. It was too late, even though we were much better with Akanji. Pep started Stones and Ake at CB in the final, because he benched them in the last games in the league and relied entirely on Dias and Akanji.
We wouldn't have won the Treble and 4 in a row without Akanji. He deserves a lot more respect.
