Odd thing is Sane continually incurred Guardiola’s wrath for failing in his defensive duties, yet Mahrez seemingly gets a free pass. His tracking back at their opener made Kolarov look like Bolt, and when he gave the ball away in the lead up to another goal, he barely raised a gloved finger to recover it. Lovely chap, mind, and rarely sulks...

Sane's face just didn't fit. Pep did not like him for whatever reason.

It's the Mahrez enigma. He's got the ability to do amazing things that few others can (throughballs and crosses and crazy goals) but often takes too long and does the wrong thing.

I think we should be playing him more centrally a little more often. He was really good tonight.

Central Mahrez is best Mahrez.

Either in a false 9 role or attacking midfield, he is so predictable out wide.

His crossing is unimpressive, he puts too little power in them.

But... when he cuts out being greedy and tries to play through balls on the ground, he is a very good creator, he can be phenomenal for us if he can do this, basically he needs to play like Messi more.

Was a weird game from him. Almost as if his finishing and dribbling diminished, but turned into prime De Bruyne with his chance creation. The weight on those passes was a thing of beauty.

I get the feeling that Pep might deploy him in David Silva role as a partner to KDB in midfield. My only problem is that it will make our left side defense even weaker.
