I think yesterday was an example of him playing well but not being the right fit for the team. The two can co-exist. We are this well oiled machine when it comes to pattern of play and all the players know when to expect a ball & time their runs and movement accordingly. The ball gets to Mahrez and that machine pretty much stops. He’s brilliant at taking those balls out of the sky but also the wind out of our sails. The pass will come too late or not at all. A cross will come in or a shot that gets deflected as it took too long for him to get it off.
There were some brilliant moments. The control, the two passes to Gundo. And it was one of his better games. But I can’t unsee the relative disjointedness in our approach play when he’s involved compared to other areas of the pitch.
