I am at a loss at what the club scouts, Pep and co thought he would fit into our style of playing. He was very effective for Leicester but their playing style is the polar opposite of ours.
I can understand that maybe we needed an option for unpicking packed defenses but I do not think that a selfish player who looks to dribble and shoot rather than pass was the answer. Maybe a peak Maradona or Messi could have made a success of that role but I am struggling to think of any other players who could do so. Players like Salah or Mane could do it better than Mahrez but would not get near their Liverpool goal/assist totals playing for us in our system (not so many penalties either!).
The only way that Mahrez can be a success for City is if we radically change the way that we play which effectively means a manager other than Pep is in charge.
