They guy has one move, and its not even very effective...

Can he play in the middle? If I see another 65+ minutes of him trying to cut inside and end up just passing backwards I'm going to lose it.
I get frustrated with Mahrez as anyone, but I think yesterday he was actually more effective than people think. He has great control and can trap a ball as good as anyone. Yes he passes it back, but I think against Pool, Pep was concerned about keeping the ball as long as possible. I don't think he was overly concerned about Mahrez attacking Robertson. I think it was more about attacking with Sterling on the left against TAA. So in some respects I think Mahrez did his job on the day. We seen before Pep put Gundogan on the right wing. Again I think it was more about not letting Pool attack us by holding on to the ball. If we had a wingers who attack quickly on both sides, maybe we could get goals, but that also means more opportunities to counter attack for them when we lose it.

The thought that Pep would risk the title or the season just because Mahrez was an expensive signing is hard to understand. Because it doesn't really make sense. Pep plays Zinchenko over Mendy who cost us about 25 times as much as Zinchenko.
Pep hates bad eggs, and won't stop at anything to expel them.

He binned off Hart ASAP, whereas the other older players he didn't rate much like the fullbacks we had at the time he incorporated into his teams.

All I can think of is that Mahrez is tactically doing what is asked of him, even if his contribution with the ball is not where it needs to be

If he’s stretching the pitch effectively, isolating fullbacks, creating space in the inside right channel for Bernardo and Cancelo to exploit, Pep may be happy enough with him. From his post-match comments about Foden it’s clear that Pep highly values players being positionally aware

It’s almost certainly the same reason he persisted with Sterling through a poor run of form. Even when nothing is coming off for Sterling, his positional sense alone creates space and lets us play our football

I'd play him false 9 more, I think he's more comfortable in the center spaces, and while he has some good games RW, not enough over Foden, Sterling and Ferran are offering lately.

Cancelo's creativity also suffers because Mahrez doesn't offer Cancelo that much, whereas Ferran/Sterling are always looking to make runs behind from Cancelos through balls.

Is everyone else excited about being proved wrong on twiglet?

Na, me either (:
what's frustrating about mahrez is he's a fucking quality player, top quality ,but he lacks that aggression , get him a blood transfusion with some zabba blood and we would have a player on our hands.

have you not seen his legs ,haha, i usually load citys plane ,sometimes i get to watch them get on, mahrez got on the plane with shorts on once and i have never seen legs so thin, pep once said ,he never gets a muscle injury because he hasn't got any :)

Thought he was alright early on. Went missing again as the game went on. Foden's showed him how it's done on the right, he's never played well on the left and the last thing we need is him being in the middle. Hopefully someone is willing to cough up this summer.

I'd probably be more likely to forgive his shortcomings if he didn't come across like a proper knob.

I think it’s more attitude, personally.... he’s so aloof and goes against the team ethic... he has talent, that can’t be questioned, however, like a good few over the years, lacks consistent application

He’s had 3 seasons and the penny hasn’t dropped for me!

This, plus for all the technique he has in his locker he doesn’t have that burst of power or speed to get away from the full back if he does beat them. So it limits his usefulness unless he’s in the box already, or can quickly get a cross in to the box.

Foden and Sterling on the other hand have both technique and pace and terrorised Liverpool’s full backs as a result.

he has talent for sure, but he's incomplete to have no right foot.
a lot of his game is missing,
and it's the fast part where he can't go down the line with pace
and cross when the striker has room before the box is clogged.
like this inverted winger. start about 1:05

He’s a luxury player, simple as that. I’d be more than happy for him to stand on the wing, not tracking back, shitting out of tackles as long as he was banging a goal in every game. Simple fact is, he’s not, he’ll have 1 good game out of 10 (or that’s what it feels like).

There’s obviously a player in there, but i think he needs to feel like he’s the main man, which he’ll never be here. When he leaves he’ll go to team competing for top 4 Everton, Leicester, Spurs etc and he’ll probably bang them in.
