Killer passes are no use if your finishing is wank

It looks to me like his finishing is more about pressure than skill.

He scored 11 times last season, so can't be that bad, but the pressure of playing for a smaller club, when it's your breakthrough season, is nothing compared to playing for City. It's common enough for young players to go through the stages of scoring freely, then missing under pressure, then maturing and learning how to score under pressure, and that's without the added stress of such a huge move.

The joke when he started was that he was the new Mahrez, but Mahrez's first year scoring more than 10 goals was when the season he turned 25.

There are prodigies who score from late teens to early 20s, and continue throughout their career, but most players at that age are still a long way from the finished article. The problem is whether City can afford to rely on him at this age, and take the chance that he's going to turn into a great player.

I whole heartedly hope it comes to fruition for him, and hope i'm wrong but I just don't see any improvement in him.
I notice a young lad last night in Barca colours didn't seem to have any issues with finishing and selecting the right pass

I love how he gets compared to players like yamal who are absolute generational players. Can you name more of those 17-21 year old with such an impact ? Especially on the wing ?

Pressure, agreed. Wants it too much.

His decision making suffers from his self made pressure and he shoots when he should pass and vice versa.

Should start telling himself 100 times a day
"I don't need to score to be a great player".

Young Brazilian, definitely needs to have more fun instead pressure.

Thing is , if you are good enough at 17-18 you will play, like we see from Yamal.Yes ,he is a generational talent we hope to see one day from citys academy.Barca has been lucky to have pedri ,gavi and yamal coming through lately and they have delievered.Savinho just isnt good enough to be a starting winger for a team who goes for a treble every season and never will if he doesnt start to produce regularly.Hopefully he will improve, but city isnt a club who can wait for years.

maybe city shouldn’t play with wingers then because there are no top wingers available. Savinho and doku are part of the best who can reach a certain level. Kvaraskhelia was sadly psg bound

And this is the challenge. So many posts saying why dont the kids get a chance - and this is the reason. They play as kids and are labelled "not good enough" or dont play and are apparently the next world class player who will be sold.

As a club we need to see more patience and ability to develop for the youngsters we have coming through and not immediately dismiss them as not good enough when they struggle alongside senior players who are also struggling.

I don’t know how you can’t see that he’s got so much potential to improve drastically after a year of settling in.

As for comparing him to Yamal it would have been like saying David Silva didn’t look that good years ago when you watched Barca’s little number 10.

Is this another thread to condemn a 20-year-old player and write him off as unsuited to our future?
Savinho is a huge talent. He showed it in Girona, and has shown it here, in spells.
Some day, I hope we can look back at this thread and realise that a bad season for the team does not mean that players like Lewis, Nunes, Grealish, Foden, Gundogan, Gonzalez, Bernardo, Doku, McAtee, and others, were all utterly shite, not good enough, finished, past it, or never will be.
I'm seriously considering just ignoring all the Savinho haters, because they have no no football knowledge whatsoever if they don't understand the talent we have.

Generally speaking, the same members crop up in the more barbed critiques of Lewis, Nunes, Grealish, Doku, and now Savinho, often liking the more vitriolic posts. It's a shame, IMO, that we cannot enjoy this period of unbelievable success without still finding the need for venom. I have no issue with constructive, balanced criticism whatsoever.

At some point potential has to be realised, he seems to be going back, not forward

Probably one of our top 3 players across the season, most league assists in the team, slowed down a bit as the season came to an end and he became a dad. Goals will come to him, he's not even had a proper preseason yet and he's just turned 21.

If he keeps the right attitude and can cope with starting half the games he's the essential type of top class squad player you need to keep. Same for Doku.

You can only sign one or two players every year who are undeniably world class, expect the team to be built around them and expect to start every game. The vast majority of your squad is to complement that.

The negative comments on here about Savinho are similar to those I read about Doku, Khusanov, Nico, and Reis.

I think what some people are failing to understand is that these are all young players who have been signed for the future. They have not even got close to realising their full potential yet.

The moaners would do well to remember that KDB was rejected by Chelsea and Rodri wasn’t great in his first season with us. I think they both turned out pretty well.

Be patient and give these players a chance. For what it’s worth I love watching Savinho and I think he has the potential to be a world class winger. If he and Doku realise their full potential, with Haaland and Marmoush playing through the middle we could have a lethal front four.

Not sure what posts you have been reading but most posters seem to want more game time for Khusanov Ries and everybody is delighted for Nico. As for Doku he's shown some improvement in recent weeks but at 23 he should know what the winger role is about. He's been playing as a pro for 5 years. As for Savinho he really needs to work at his game and understand the team ethic

Oh man, shitting his pants, again.
Pep pointing to go down the wing - he didn't have the balls. Incredible!

Instead he took the ball from Kova's foot.
It hurts watching.
