26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Agreed. Savinho isn’t currently fit to lace Mahrez’s boots.
How true. Mahrez gave us twenty odd goal involvements a season, Saviniho will struggle to achieve half that tally, even if he has a good season and there in lies the problem for City, and it's not just a Savio problem, we need more goals from around the team. We can't just be relying on Earling Haaland because like all strikers he will have a dry spell eventually.

Played for 90+ and created next to nothing.
Hope I'm wrong but this time next year we'll be looking to offload on loan.
Pep's comments are encouraging, we need goals from our wide players.

He has 6 years to learn to be productive, my overbearing suspicion is that he wont learn and he'll keep falling over when someone as much as looks at him.

We have some pretty poor wide players considering who we are, apart from Doku who seems to have some fire in his belly and is coming good we are pretty much running on empty.

Ive got to ask but what positve things does he do for a winger? He gets the ball, darts forward 5 yards, stops, and passes it backwards or sideways. He NEVER takes his man on, he never tries tricks (for a Brazilian winger i find that odd) he never gets to the by-line and whips one in, his crossing is poor, his passing is poor, hes not fast or strong, he doesnt seem to have a stronger foot, never mind a weaker one. I really, really want to like him but can't find a positve yet. Whereas Bobb constantly beats his man, goes inside and outside, seems to pick the right pass quite a few times, yes he isnt fast or strong but you can see things to work with and his control of the ball amd technique gives me great hope he'll come on leaps and bounds.

Wouldn't be surprised if his new contract was just to prop his wage up. Makes sense he was flirting with Spurs to force City's hand.

We should have sold him in my opinion. He's miles off the quality we need currently. I really hope he comes good and proves me wrong but he's showing very little when he plays at the moment.

He got 14 last season for us (16 if you include the CWC).

I said on the Bobb thread, it's incredibly hard for our wingers at the moment because we're not getting enough out of our midfield/full backs.

Their job is basically one where they're isolated against the opposition's full back and can either take them on or pass backwards. Back when we were winning the lot, we had such a drilled system there were options everywhere. You'd have a ball to the full back, a ball inside to Rodri and you'd have a ball either into space or inside to Gundo/De Bruyne/Bernardo depending who playing.

Watch the 4-0 against Real Madrid and you'll see how there was so much movement, but all carefully coordinated.

Reijnders and Nico need to be much better in finding space to support the wingers.

Nailed it

Honest question: Was Savinho under instruction not to try and beat his defender one on one? I think he may have tried to do so maybe once all game.
on the left it's almost impossible, all he knows how to do on that side is cross, to dribble and make the difference in 1 against 1 or 1 against 2 you have to use him on the right where he is more comfortable using his speed

With the amount it low blocks and how slow we play can’t see him being effective there anyways. Club needs to go for another right footed LW. The only LW in recent times that would be left footed and effective against even low blocks would be Douglas Costa. He had too many ways to go past his player

For Savinho I had already given my opinion when there were the Tottenham rumors, I said we should sell, not because he doesn't have qualities but because I had doubts about his mentality, the fact that he opened the door with a transfer and for the Spurs after only one year at the club was enough for me to have an overview of the mental quality of the player especially since I already had doubts on this point before.

I observe a lot the behavior of the players in the group, in training, these are often clues that do not disappoint, even after a year here, he seems to be still a new player, apart from Nunes, with whom he is all the time, I see him talking and having fun with no one, even Khusanov who is shy by nature, and more recent in the group, he is more integrated in the group talks and teases with Trafford, Donnarumma, Ait Nouri, O'Reilly, Rico... in short, I hope that Savinho will make efforts to learn the language something that will make his life much easier to communicate with his teammates now that he intends to stay for years normally

if we go back to the pitch, honestly, I don't see him becoming someone who will score a lot of goals, neither him nor any of our wingers, this also applies to O Bobb and even Doku, they have a lot of room for improvement and can be very strong at unbalancing a defense and even making assists, but I don't see any becoming a world-class winger capable of scoring 20 goals minimum per season and creating goals for themselves like Mahrez, Salah, Ribery, Robben could do... or currently Yamal, Kvara, and Olisee, that's why I want the latter in our team next season, if the club has to spend 100M ≈120M next summer, they have to spend it at Bayern

Our midfielders, Foden, Reijnders, Cherki must also absolutely bring their goal quotas and improve in their decision-making in the last 20 meters, we cannot get away with always counting on Erling Haaland.

I don't see our wingers capable of creating goals like that, something Mahrez already did with Leicester in the Championship.

And our midfielders. We have fuck all chance of winning anything unless the goal contrbitions from around the pitch improve. We are FC Haaland at the moment. Savinho did nothing right or nothing wrong yesterday a real meh performance. He deserves our support for now but we really do need to see him do a bit more than fall over a couple of times each game he plays.

Mahrez gave us 16G/A in his first season for Prem/UCL, Savinho gave us 12 G/A

Mahrez was 27, cost £60mil (the club record fee), had 4 years of Prem experience, previous PFA player of the season, joining a team that was one of the greatest off all time and relied on its wingers for goals

Savinho is 21, cost £30milz has no prem experience, joining a team in transition that has fallen off a cliff from its precious heights and relies on the striker (best in nthe world) for goals less so wingers

Don't understand why they're getting directly compared, his closest comaprison is arguably Doku who's finding his feet this year after 2 inconsistent seasons
