26 | Savinho - 2025/26

How was Mahrez doing at the age of 21? How many goals and assists did he have?
Mahrez was the exception. It it’s normal to do what he did. Savinho doesn’t have the mentality to be do what mahrez did. That’s obvious to me. Not to mention mahrez was one of the best wingers of the last 10 years. Savinho won’t get close to that imo

Okay mahrez was also 5 years older. What is this dumb mahrez vs savinho comparison . Will people ever realize that savinho is just 21? Younger than Bobb? Who people claim to be the REAL DEAL?
I was replying to a poster who brought up mahrez.

Savinho is soft. Him getting stretchered off in tears only to come back a week later sums him up. Not to mention his want to join to spurs. Soft as fuck

He doesn’t though. He’s hardly Vinicius, or even Doku.

He just doesn’t really add anything to our team, a non-scoring, non-creating attacker.
Doku is faster maybe in the first 10metres that’s it. Savinho is definitely the faster of the two. There‘s a difference between standing start and running. How often does Doku slow down to accelerate? Savinho doesn’t need that

Not when he was Savinho's age he wasn't - he joined Leicester from Le Havre after scoring 6 times in 60 games. I'm not saying Savinho will reach Mahrez levels, as you say Mahrez was one of the best wingers in the last 10 years. But at 21 who could say what he did.

Similarly Salah as 2 goals and one assist at the same age for Chelsea. Again not saying Sahinho will do the same as Salah but i bet Chelsea are kicking themselves for not persisting with him (and Kev)

Mahrez was already good at Le Havre (I watched his matches in the French Ligue 2), but unfortunately the context meant he found success late. In France, they favor physical players. He, like Griezmann, had no future there if they hadn't taken their destiny into their own hands. Mahrez always had his childhood friend as his agent; he wasn't lucky enough to be on Manchester City's radar and play for one of the best coaches in history, with so much talent around him. Otherwise, Mahrez, as soon as he started with Leicester in the Championship at 22, we already saw goals from another planet that reflected all his talent.

I'm not making a comparison between Mahrez and Savinho; this is just to provide some clarification on the beginning of Mahrez's career.

Can't believe the amount of posts slagging off one of our players. This has been going on for days & days non-stop. I might have opinions of whether a player is good enough or not. But even if I thought he wasn't up to our standard I will support any player who puts on a blue shirt. I definitely waste my valuable time making post after post purely to slag off a player. It's still too early to say what level he will get to. Some people must have very boring lives to spend so much time slagging off players.

Madness to offer him a 6 yr contract until he is performing to a consistant level week in week out .
Until that happens i wouldn't be upping his contract or wages .

I am. If Savinho becomes two thirds the player Mahrez was with us we should throw a parade.

How about some context. First it was reported he was OK with a move away to Spurs. Then he came down with a mysterious injury that no one knew fuck all about. Now he's getting better and longer terms. Of course he's been a daily topic of discussion. Some are picking up for him. Some are slagging him off. Some are somewhere in between. It's the nature of the beast. Relax, it's not personal.

Based on what exactly?
Based on how well Savinho has performed versus how well Bobb has performed.

Savinho often can't beat his man one-on-one - lack of options when he receives the ball hurts his play.

Bobb, however, has the same lack of options - but makes far better decisions with the ball.

Savinho drives forward, and most often doesn't beat his man and loses the ball - or does beat his man and fails to deliver an end product.

Bobb on the other hand reads the game. If he gets the ball, he recirculates if nothing is on, or delivers an immediate cross to one of our attackers.

That’s slightly unfair. Savinho has created and assisted far more than Bobb.

Savinho doesn’t work as hard as Bobb though and that can be a weakness in our system at the moment.

Savinho has all the physical tools to make it to the top. Whether he has the mentality and mindset is yet to be seen. Same with Bobb.

What should be happening is both being developed whilst having a Mahrez level winger.

Eye test says otherwise.

On a minutes played basis - who among the two has the most assists/goals/whatever good stat per minutes played keeping in mind bad stats... turn overs/bad passes into the box especially when open and so on?... for me, Bobb is the far better player.

Your post is based on appearances - how do these stats break down on the basis of minutes played?

For me, the eye test indicates that Bobb is by far the better player.

Better decision making; better on the ball; better in close spaces; better able to defeat a defender one-on-one and better able to decide when to attempt to do so.

You could work that out yourself. I don't see why there needs to be a direct comparison. Bobb looks much more at home, but he's played at City for a number of years now. Savinho is younger, and has very similar output in terms of minutes per goal/assist.

Both need time to be the finished article. Maybe they'll end up delivering as Mahrez once did, or maybe they won't and we can buy someone else instead. Not a huge drama.

I don't see our squad as being so stacked that we'd let Savinho go, regardless of how much was on the table. If there was a world class replacement out there for him then fine, but there isn't right now. Spurs regarded him as worthy of that offer, the club valued him as worth of more and are giving him a new contract. Personally, I'd trust them. All the issues in his game currently are minor. Doku had some fundamental issues with his but now looks to have addressed them.

With Savinho are we're really talking about is composure in the final third.
