26 | Savinho - 2025/26

Unlucky or not good enough?

That is just shit finishing.

I'm sorry to say it is. Look carefully, and you see that he actually scuffs the shot, whereas he's clean through. He doesn't even hit it cleanly. And I'll tell you something else — if Doku is on that, there's a good chance he puts it in, or puts it to someone in space. Not two season ago, for sure. But it is an area of his game that has really come on.
Don't expect good finishing from this player, whatever else he can do or might develop. Nor from Reijnders. Both of them are simply poor at shooting. I just don't believe that's going to improve, however long they stay with us. And this is a loss, by comparison with our previous (admittedly) great teams, because we always got goals from the wingers, and from the attacking midfielders. It wasn't all on Sergio. Or on Erling.

I really don’t rate him at all, but thought he did ok last night. But those two chances were such poor efforts from him. Everybody knew he wouldn’t score when he got clean through. Never seen such poor shooting technique from an attacking player.

One 6/10 doesn’t change the ever he’s crap, though. That’s the best we’ll get out of him and he needs binning off because he isn’t going to improve.

He looks like he could be a scintillating winger, but his finishing looks horrific and his wastefulness is legendary already.

I know he’s young, but he could have put that game out of sight, and his last miss was ridiculous, esp after such a brilliant run!

I’m not sure he has a future here, but could be a worldie somewhere! He looks a shadow of Estevao(sp?) at Chelsea.

With Semenyo arriving — a player who has been in blistering form, even in a team that's not playing particularly well — and Doku finally coming into his own, I don't really see where he gets minutes, other than maybe cup games. Bernardo's time is coming to an end, for sure, but he can still play on the wing. And don't forget that Echeverri, young as he is (and he's only one year younger than Savinho), can play on the wing. And he is regarded as a serious prospect. (Mind you, so was Savinho).
And all this is independently of Bobb leaving.

Don't forget it's 12 months since he arrived. Many of our players didn't make an impact until after that timescale.
Very true but you have to take your chance when it comes along.
Had he scored one of the two chances yesterday
it would have done his confidence a major boost and his overall game will improve.
Others missed very good chances last night as well but the likes of Foden and Haaland have lots of credit in the bank.

Pretty shite at shooting isn’t he
He certainly is but don’t think the 2 last night were that bad in fairness. The first looked worse than it was because it bounced up just before he hit it. The 2nd he’d have needed a Sane like finish as it was good from the keeper and a pretty tight angle.

All that said once again he didn’t make a clean contact and i think had Doku started we’d have won that game. He put the fear of god into them once he was on and was very unlucky not to score a wonder goal. Savinho has so much natural ability but he’s hugely frustrating. Could yet become a great winger if the penny drops but time will tell.

He was more than decent last night, had the beating of the full back.

First effort was a decent save which yes he could have struck better.

The second chance was more impressive for the driving run to get into that position, unlucky with the connection.

I’d like to see patience with him, which will be afforded if we can get Semenyo - Sav and Marmoush battling for time off the bench would be decent.

It shouldn't take 12 months though and I can guarantee it won't take Semenayo 12 days to make an impact. A lazy excuse that. Cherki doing great right out of the box too.

So is this how low we have come now. We are classing a good game for Savinho is beating his man a few times and aimlessly crossing the ball in to no one.

He's so bad, if he was playing for anyone else... let's not lie we would be calling him what he is, wank. Cos he plays for us the bluemoon happy clappers will defend him.
Agree. If he was anywhere else outside of the top 6, not a soul would be saying sign him. If he was at the rags and had scored 1 goal in the calendar year in the league we would be laughing our bollocks off and adding him to the list with Antony and all the other shite they ahve purchased.

All this forum ever comes up with is that Mahrez was a late bloomer and turned into a world class player several years late, anyone got any other examples?

There are plenty of examples of players who had potential and people thought if he just learnt how to do X, Y and Z he would be unstoppable but they never do and end up knocking around Europe with clubs taking a punt that they might work out what to do with them.

I thought he did OK last night. Was our most threatening player early on, and made a great run for his chance at the start of the second half. Got to be burying chances like that though. Until he starts adding goals to his game he's only going to be a bit-part player for us. Hope his injury isn't serious though, as we're already light in terms of numbers.

May be a blessing in disguise for Mukasa the same way how Nico O'Reilly got a chance.

Yes I know we have Semenyo incoming but I wouldn't want to risk Doku for 90 min fresh off a muscular injury.

Nothing else he does matters when he can’t finish. He was our most threatening forward but it is irrelevant when there is no end product. The guy couldn’t hit the target, centre goal, 6 yards out. He is a complete waste of time and effort.
Ryan Giggs could not cross the ball at 21. That was a key facet for a winger, 25/30 years ago. The man is a **** but he turned into a quality footballer. United persevered with Giggs because he clearly had something. We need to do the same with Savinho. He has issues that need addressing and he should have scored last night. But, when you have the ability he has, you have to persevere.

Salah and Dembele two of the best players in the world last season are late blooming wingers. Semenyo was doing nothing at 21. Raphinha was at Vitoria. Kvara was at Kazan.

Most of the great wingers weren't doing all that much at 21.

Finishing as a talent tends to emerge 25+ often the best finishers are much older than your average player - look at lewandowski, kane, benzema who all became much more lethal with age.

The intensity, intelligence, passing, movement and crossing were all there last night for Sav. Once again showing at 21 he's some natural finishing improvement away from being a top class winger. If he could just develop at the same rate Doku has (and I see no reason he can't) he's a top 10 in the world winger at 24.

Good post, his excellent movement got him in those positions and his finishing was shit but that will improve over time. He'll come good
