I get the impression that a lot of fullbacks that come up through the youth systems of big teams are just good footballers that lacked the pace or skill to play as wingers and so just wound up as fullbacks almost by default.

They also are so used to dominating teams domestically that their attacking attributes are valued far more highly than their defensive ones.

Hadn’t heard a thing concerning Cancelo. Didn’t know he was playing for Portugal tonight. So he’s not injured anymore then.

I wonder if he was actually self isolating. Pep said after Leeds we had 6 with Covid, but only Gundogan, Mahrez and Laporte were named as positive tests. It might explain the sudden injury to Stones as well.

He just did 'the thing' then, which I referred to in another thread, as in taking a touch & bringing the ball down, facing his own goal.

It's the one where Rashford or Mané nick it & it's in the net. Got away with it this time but it's crap.

He's a very good attacking option. That's it.

Right so, either he's just come back at a really fortunate time for Portugal or theres something more we're not being told.

Played good at right back at the end of last season and hasn't had a look in for 'injuries' this season, I really hope it's the former as how on earth, when we're so short at RB can Pep play Mendy over Cancelo?
