You know what I mean, my mistake - Cancelo covered Mendy a few times at left back at the end of last season and looked decent.
And at this current point - decent is more than I can say for the rest of our options in that position

At his best he's better than Mendy going forward. If anything even worse at defending.

Given Mendy's last few efforts - can you get any worse at defending?
Mendy seems to shit the bed as soon as he gets a yellow because he's scared of being sent off - so plays as a passenger - We can't afford that.
He just did 'the thing' then, which I referred to in another thread, as in taking a touch & bringing the ball down, facing his own goal.
It's the one where Rashford or Mané nick it & it's in the net. Got away with it this time but it's crap.
He's a very good attacking option. That's it.
Suppose that puts him one up on Mendy these days

Thought he looked much better in the second half when Portugal took off the scrubs.
Coincided with Spain bringing in a scrub in Gaya on Cancelo's side too as the players know one another well. Spain's left side was pretty poor overall on the night I thought without Ansu

I saw a game he played a few weeks back against Croatia I think? he scored a peach cutting in from the right he unleashed an unstopable left footer. I though his general play was good also. Amazed he wasn't at least on the bench last Saturday. Weird one.

There's always the debate about playing for NT & club when injuries are involved. Was surprised to see Bernardo much less Garcia without his helmet
