Soccer ? It is football
Read your ‘istree, Kaz, before you look down your nose from your lofty perch! ;-)

Here, I’ll save you the trouble…

The word "soccer" originated in England in the late 19th century as a way to differentiate association football from rugby football.

When the Football Association was formed in England in 1863, they established the rules for "association football", as opposed to the "rugby football" that was also played at the time.

University students at Oxford in the 1880s started shortening "association football" to "assoccer", which eventually evolved into the term "soccer". This was a common practice among English public schoolboys to nickname sports.

While "football" became the more widely used term for the sport in England, "soccer" remained in use, especially to distinguish it from other forms of football like rugby and Gaelic football.

When the sport spread to other countries, like the United States, "soccer" became more commonly used there, due to American football, while "football" remained the dominant term in England and most of the world.

So in summary, the word "soccer" was an English invention, not an American one, that arose as a way to differentiate the sport from other forms of football in the late 19th century.

You’re welcome. ;-)

Why on earth did we buy this lad? He's been a useless addition to the squad. Should have been an option yesterday when we needed a goal, of course he doesn't score any so all in all a pointless signing.
He was injured for Portugal. Maybe it was a precaution

a panic buy. Txiki needs better planning, Phillips and Nunes are two signings where we could have spent the money so much better. put their fees and salaries together and we could have afforded a world class signing improving the starting line up rather not not improving the bench even...

The Portuguese Phillips
Philips at least had a decent tournament in the last Euros and did ok for Leeds when in the prem to kind of show his level. However disastrous it has turned out for him at city and now west ham he had something on his CV to suggest he could play at a high-ish level.

This guy had a bang average season at a poor wolves side and we still shelled £50m for him. Hes nearly 26 and still has no clear attribute to his game which makes you think he can play at the very top level. People say hes a 'ball carrier' which is completely irrelevant when his career stats back up theres absolutely no end product to his game.

Dumbfounded why we didnt move for someone like Maddison for £40m over him who would have offered more competition to the established staters and would have also been a much better option to change a game off the bench which yesterday was crying out for.

He was a panic buy. I was saying to my dad at the game yesterday that there was no way Pep was gonna bring him on in a game where we needed something different. So why sign him then?
