27 | Matheus Nunes - 2024/25

Feel like he was trying to prove something in tempo the other night, not trying to do too much transition and playing more keep ball to win a go at the 6 position. At Sporting he def played deeper, my mate is a fan of theirs and is shocked every time i tell him he doesn't look like he has it in him. I still don't see it tbh.

With all due respect and admiration for Pep, the way he manages him is catastrophic. Quite simply, he's never given him a chance. When I look at the way he treats Rico (whom I adore) and the way he treats him, there's something really wrong. I could also take Rodri's first season as an example, which wasn't really that great and yet he always gave him a chance.

So I have a couple of questions. Why did he buy him? Would a Rice or a Bellingham, who were the first choices, would really have a chance? Why did he insist on keeping him this season when there were other offers?

I don't' think Pep is to be blamed here...

What any City player has to have, especially front 6 player - is being solid and stable with the ball.

Yes, he can be lethal in the final third, but he is not striker or false9 or winger, he is midfielder and midfielder shouldn't be easily loosing the ball.

First thing what he lacked last season, was that any time there was like physical duel or tackle or something like that, I had a feeling that he would loose 10 out of 10 times. Also, he was slipping a lot on the pitch.

So if we combine these two issues, it means that we are vulnerable whenever this guy plays, because he lacks ability to cope with the "first action" or needs more time or space than City has luxury to give to a midfield player.

Same problem we had with Kalvin, that's why Pep mentioned this summer that Kalvin likes to have space and time, but who doesn't ? :D

But I still think that Matheus has a future here, because he wasn't and isn't "Kalvin Phillips bad". But he has to improve in terms of physical strength to avoid those slippery on the pitch and endure physical duels as well.

Otherwise - his first touch, dribbling, shooting and other skills are extraordinary.

He spent close to 100million Pound on Kalvin and Nunes, and didn't use any of them

So sorry, he has to take part of the blame here.

Yeah sure it's extraordinary.
His problem is located between his ears and that's why Pep is gutted,
Nunes could show great action for all his skills - but he doesn't!
How long do you wait til he jumps over the bar and flies??

Did you know Pep was overruled on Kounde by Juanma Lillo and we got Ruben Dias instead?

Did you know Pep didn't even know who Julian Alvarez was and Txiki got him based on his South American scout's recommendation?

Did you know Pep didn't even know who Jeremy Doku was and Txiki got him based on his recruitment team's recommendation?

Go over his previous comments in press conferences.. it's quite clear recruitment isn't based on Pep's final word.

I thought with his big personality he has a " Veto" right to any new signing.

Considering he doesn't even pick the captains.. he chooses where to micromanage and where to delegate.

Transfers apparently aren't micromanaged!
