Mancini says Micah Richards out for a month with an ankle injury but Joe Hart (back problem) should be fit for PL opener at weekend #MCFC

Well we've used it in every game now during pre-season... Doesn't make it certain that we'll stick with it but looking more and more likely.

I like it and as I've said before, it suits a lot of our players and isn't a problem for any of them.

I'd say it suits the following players more than the system we usually used last season..

Zaba
Savic
Kolarov
Milner
de Jong

And players like Clichy, Lescott, Vinny and Richards can easily slot into it too. The right half/wing back position might also suit Johnson against "lesser" opposition.

It also allows us to have two up front which also suits all our strikers.

What's not to like?

nasri and silva can't play in a 3-5-2 . expecially silva.

so i think we will use 3-5-2 when we need to rest silva , or he's injured.

Nasri and Silva may not be able to play together but either can do it well in this set-up.

Commentators were stating new formation and it took chelsea time to figure it out. They seem to think we will stick with this throughout, I don't beleive we will we will use it depending on game, players available and the type of game. If the players are all comfortable and understand it I can see us swapping from one to the other even in a game. It will keep the opposition guessing and prove difficult to defend against. IMO

Can anyone think of a player who might not fit into this system ? I would be a little concerned about Barry. When he plays well - City play well. Just worried that if the wing backs are too far away his lack of pace could come into play.

Also a bit concerned about Micah falling in between two stools. Centre Back or Wing Back as opposed to being the best Right Back in the Prem which he was last season.

The biggest advantage would be it brings so many more players really into play. Milner,Kolorov, Dzeko,Kolo Toure and De Jong. This enables Mancini to rotate more than just the full backs.

To be honest the main advantage this gives us is that other teams aren't used to playing against a 3-5-2 as we saw today Chelsea's attackers came up with nothing and didn't know where to go. Like a few people have said I can't see us playing it against the likes of United or Chelsea away but it looked good today as for the Nasri/Silva problem, Silva didn't look like he was playing quite as high up the pitch as Nasri was and so he may play instead of NDJ/Barry and if not didn't Nasri play centermid for France and for Arsenal.

Either way he may have his problems but I definatly trust Mancini when it comes to tactics and if it gets the results what is there to complain about? Good football is just a bonus.

The other thing is the three supposed centre backs weren't centre backs at all. I have never seen Zab used as a pure CB neither have I seen Clichy there. Yet against almost a full strength Chelsea side up until Pants making a gaff in goal we were cruising albeit against ten men. I have to say Savic is still the weak link.

Put in the three real Cbs we have Kolo Kompany and Lescott we might start to look the real deal. Unfortunately the team together hasn't had enough time in pre season, seems we have had two independent squads playing the same system. Friendlies this week won't help and until they all report in on Friday only then will Mancini decide depending on who he has available.

Up to now we know Barry and Richards are out.

It was interesting to see Clichy and Zaba playing as the outside centre backs alongside Kompany, because when Chelsea tried to drag them wide and isolate them, they were moving into their natural positions and looked comfortable in these areas as opposed to a natural CB who might not be accustomed to playing so wide.

if we stick with this system ( which i hope we do ), I think James Milner may be about to have the season of his career . absolutely perfect for the role, id stick with JL VK MR as the 3 then milner on the right and gael or ak on the other side. he's got the work rate to make it work, aswell as the quality when he gets in the final third

I have been telling people that this change would happen for 36 months. Mancini has tried this formation over ten times in competitive games.
Nothing new , will not be the tactic this season eitjer. Welcome to plan C
