#3 | Rúben Dias - 2020/21 Performances

Seemed to have his usual aura of utter dominance knocked when he was bullied by Haaland. Sloppiness crept in to his game tonight. A rest at the weekend could do him good especially after playing every international minute too although equally, Pep might want to give him another game to reassert himself before facing haaland again.

Going forward, if we remain in all competitions after next week I expect Pep to manage his minutes more now that laporte is back in good form and ake is fit again.

Maybe, but I feel that if that were a factor, then Stones would’ve player against Leicester or not played at all today

I wonder why this bad performance happened. It's easy to fall back on pressure, mentality, etc. but I really don't think that Dias is the kind of guy who gets affected too much by those things. If it's tactical then what is it exactly and can it be avoided next time? I have read that it's because he is uncomfortable playing LCB in a back 3, but I'm not sure what the alternate solutions are.

I wouldn’t worry too much - this guy has been immense all season, he’s allowed one (slightly) off game.

Dortmund played us well cut out the ball to rodri pressed and marked our build up fron the back, I expect pep to tweek it a little bit to wrestle our build up back, dias and stones played well, we limited them to 2 shots on goal pretty much

A lot of it was down to Rodri and Cancelo. Dortmund had 2 players constantly marking them, made their movements difficult, hence the ball kept going backwards and sideways in the first half due to failure in breaking the lines and finding that key pass in the build up to an attack.

When you constantly have the ball at your feet you can only pass about sideways or backwards so many times, and eventually they managed to rattle him because they knew he would either take the risk or just hoof it to someone. The ground battles were largely won aside the Haaland incident, and other notable moments involve just the usual, trying to build up and getting caught in possession.

A little off it today. Mostly with the passes and that one dribble the near fked up. Always gonna be difficult against Dortmund's press. But, thought overall he did okay against Haaland.

Looks mentally fatigued to me. We’ve rinsed him and so did Portugal (played every minute of the international break).

He needs resting in the Prem games this month.
