Pep presumably gave them a game plan to execute and the whole back four were superb. I had Zin as MotM for delivering one of the most complete displays I've seen during Pep's time. Ruben was a colossus though and simply led in every way that you can and took his game up a notch yesterday because the opponent demanded it. Not sure yet what his ceiling is.

I've said before, we got lucky that Benfica went out of the UCL before the transfer window shut but there was no luck involved in choosing Dias: City knew he was top quality; although they may still be a little surprised at just how well he has done in his first season.

People are mentioning him in the same breath as Van Dijk this morning so his ceiling is sky high based on that! In all seriousness, I haven't seen many defensive performances as good as that. It's hard to pick just one of them, but he's definitely been a catalyst to the others improving their games. Stones undoubtedly has worked very hard to get back to this level, but Dias has helped him get there. The celebrations when they prevent a goal are so good to see. I was there celebrating them the same way I was when Mahrez got his goals. It is 90s football where the fans see someone put their body on the line and it just instantly gives you a rush. It's what we would be doing if we played, but it's not something you see all too often these days.

They've been like that regardless of the opposition though and Dias is so consistent for someone so young. He turns 24 this month! That performance at 23 years of age is quite remarkable.

!0/10 performace for determination not to conceed goals is his norm with a drop to 8/10 when hes is sick and should really be in a hospital bed on a drip.

Not sure who was ever really in the frame when the speculation was rife about us buying a defender but what a purchase this guy has been for us.

He probaly wont win any awards due to the pathetic and anti-City nature of the football media , but he probably couldn't give a flying fuck so long as her doesn't allow our defence to conceed,

Dias has a maturity that goes beyond his age, both on and off the pitch. I do not go in for tempting fate but we seem to have got someone very special.

That life on the line defending is of course something Pep doesn't want his players to have to do but given that it is almost impossible to totally avoid, especially against opponents with world class players, he must be delighted to see that die for the cause defending; just as we are. The commitment and team spirit shown last night was marvelous to witness and Dias is at the heart and soul of it. I have no doubt that he has that intangible Vinnie quality to make the players around him perform better.

My son, a Celtic not a City fan, text me this morning ‘Dias is a man mountain and he and Stones must be the best CB pairing in the world’ I did remind him not to forget VVD who singlehandedly is the best CB pairing in the world but he wouldn’t have it :-)
