There has been just one post about him after that game. He was absolutely excellent yet again too.

The fact that no one feels the need to talk about him on here is quite remarkable really. He's been here for barely any time at all, yet we all just accept that he's brilliant already. Literally feels like he's been here ages, and overall he's just such an incredibly reassuring presence.

Love him.
Feel so confident in him. It’s like he’s been here for several years. Only 23 too. Looks like we’ve actually found our Kompany replacement

He’s quietly brilliant.

We’ll know when the media switch on because instead of just being plain old ‘Ruben Dias’ he’ll become know as the ‘£63m Ruben Dias’ or if it’s still going well in a few years, the ‘£80m Ruben Dias’ ...as they add the fee we got for Otamendi on rather than deduct it.

The 1st time he makes a mistake that leads to a goal, whenever that may be, next week or next year or next decade, that's when we'll see them switch on.

There is no argument that he is our no 1 CB. Brilliant player with a wonderful attitude and real leadership potential.

Agreed we've finally landed an absolute Gem. He's already got the City DNA, missing sitters ;)

I agree with all the positive posts above. I think Pep was using today to experiment a little, I think he wanted to let Stones further regain his confidence but not leave Dias out and see how he does on the left. I think we might see Stones with Laporte and Dias with Laporte as alternative pairings more often and there is still the option of Dias or Stones with Ake so if all stay fit we are suddenly in a very strong position. Did anyone think Dias looked slightly less comfortable playing on the left.

He is a bit of a weak passer though... Not the worst, but not super either. But for all the other qualities he brings, I'll take that.

He's got the best pass completion stats in the league out of players who are regulars, so not sure what you see as weak about his passing.

Stones, Garcia and Ake have better completion stats but from far less minutes. All four CB's are within a couple of percent or so of each other.

Yes, our defenders generally make a high percentage of their pass completions because teams generally back up and pack the bus against us. So how good a passer our central defenders are isn't wholely discernible from their pass completion %. Seeing as 90% of the passes they make are simple and sideways.

It's no surprise most of our defenders have pass completion rates in the low 90s.

That said, when watching our Central defenders ( Barring Ake who I haven't seen enough of in our system) I believe Dias has the weakest range of passes and the weakest at breaking the lines with his passes. John, Eric and Garcia are superior technically, and probably Ake too.

Even today when Fulham somehow convinced themselves to press us. It was Dias who got the most intense chasing. I strongly suspect their fishes had reached the same conclusions I did.
