In the Middle Ages, the Portuguese relied heavily on the Man of War, a heavily armed war ship designed purely for combat.

Ruben is our Man of War, an armed and ruthless machine with a single intent - to win at all costs.

He drives our team on, he relishes a challenge. What a player!

Can't really see the comparisons with Carrick. ;)

Nothing wrong just doesn't look as commanding, doesn't seem at the forefront of our defensive line next to Laporte. He's not making those blocks or getting in the faces of attackers as much and seems to be on the backfoot more.

Dias and Stones as a partnership are elite - they just seem to have a calming synchronicity that neutralises each other’s flaws - but as individuals they’re both just below the top tier. It’s a substandard era of centrebacks overall - there’s only really Marquinhos and perhaps Alaba under the age of 30 who are in the very top bracket.

This season’s rotation to pander to Laporte’s summer tantrum has set both Dias and Stones back; central defence is the one are that should have an established hierarchy, so restore their partnership In the hope they can both rediscover their top form for the second half of the season.

Laughable
Rúben is still only 24. He will have long passed the ceiling of the two PlayStation legends you cite as ‘elite’ within two or three years.
If Stones isn’t being selected then it is to do with his obvious post-Euros fatigue and his frankly shite form. Did you even watch his disasterclass this evening?
‘Pandering’? I mean WTF?
So it’s actually Aymeric Laporte’s fault that Stones seems to have tonight regressed again into the mentally flaky, unforced error-strewn mess that is always bubbling under his surface?
As I said, laughable
