Still a great player but,does stones make him look a better player than he is ?
Did we not give stones as much credit as he deserved last season ?

These past 18 months or more, everyone Stones plays alongside for club or country looks a better player partnered by him than by anyone else.Still a great player but,does stones make him look a better player than he is ?

It's just harder/takes longer to notice with Ruben because he's generally so good anyway.

The only thing to do in that situation is retreat, try to close space and angles while your teammates recover.
These past 18 months or more, everyone Stones plays alongside for club or country looks a better player partnered by him than by anyone else.
It's just harder/takes longer to notice with Ruben because he's generally so good anyway.
Dias looks to have bought into the hype of being a body-on-the-line warrior - it became apparent towards the end of last season when he was made to look silly by going to ground at every opportunity, and there were examples of it yesterday aswell, like when Gallagher turned inside out in the box and got a shot off. He needs to settle down, and Stones seems to have a calming effect on his chaotic tendencies.

Good players playing well together bring out the best in each other. Their combination is greater than their individual impact, imo so yes and yes.Still a great player but,does stones make him look a better player than he is ?

1) Dias did do a lot right against Palace. He made a lot of important interventions, carried the ball forward very well, and prevented quite a few counters. He has his odd moments, but he's one of those where he removes danger so early and effortlessly you don't tend to notice them, barring the occasional wonderblock.
2) Stones does make Dias better, and vice versa. I've always liked Stones the most when he's next to a really aggressive partner. Otamendi and Dias (and begrudgingly Maguire) would play to his strengths that allow him to be the chilled out sweeper. And Stones being extremely composed and level-headed gives his partner (ie Dias) the freedom to be that aggressive CB. There's also the fact that Stones is a conservative passer and the aggressive partners all like to bring the ball out of defence themselves. It's all nicely Yin and Yang. Both Dias and Stones have shown top levels with other CBs, but they're a REALLY good match together.

With the Gallagher one he had little choice. He had to sprint at full speed to try and stop him getting a shot off. Once a striker fakes to shoot any defender would slide to block the shot.The only thing to do in that situation is retreat, try to close space and angles while your teammates recover.

No coincidence that he does not play as well without Stones. The two together seemed to gel and seem to really like playing together. It was a really good partnership now time to bring it back.
